Full description:
Neuadd y Cyfnod (The Old School) is one of the oldest buildings in the market town of Bala. The building is currently used as a restaurant and printing works though this is a far cry from the colourful history of Neuadd y Cyfnod (The Old School), which can be traced back to the 1600's. The building was formerly known as Ty tan Domen and was one of the most prominent houses in Bala. The property was purchased by Edmund Meyrick and following alteration works was opened as a Free School in 1714. During the period 1866-1872 the school was recognised as a Grammar School. Upon the death of Edmund Meyrick, the school was left to Jesus College, Oxford. In 1851 the old school was rebuilt with the main hall designed as a replica of Jesus College, Oxford. The carved oak panelling which surrounds the interior of the Banqueting Hall was installed in memory of those scholars who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War One and was paid for by the pupils of the school. The sale of Neuadd y Cyfnod (The Old School) is a rare opportunity to purchase a building full of culture and history, leaving the successful purchaser scope for development of the property as a home, hotel or business in the much visited market town of Bala. Neuadd y Cyfnod is located on a widely used through route from Manchester, Liverpool and Chester to the North Wales Coastal areas.Neuadd y Cyfnod (The Old School) comes onto the market due the retirement of the Evans family who have owned the property for 43 years. The property has been utilised as a restaurant, cafe and meeting area with offices, print works, workshop and studio.
