Dating back to 1903, the hotel used to be the station hotel for the Morar train station, which now witnesses the tourist steam train ‘The Jacobite’ passing through with over 400 passengers daily on their way to Mallaig. This is the same train featured in the Harry Potter films, which has proven to be a significant draw.
Historically trading from May to October, with strong seasonal trade, the owners have stretched the season to an April start to early December with a strong mix of European coach tours, private guests, loch fishermen, golfers and business travellers, with agency accounts and a number of shoulder season deals for the large Glasgow market wanting a weekend break. The hotel also attracts passengers using the Caledonian sleeper service to Fort William wanting a break in the highlands.

The business is a three-star hotel providing accommodation for travellers to and from Skye, primarily as a stopover but increasingly the owners have seen bookings increase from one night stops to two and three nights where it is becoming a destination of choice with visitors to the nearby islands such as Eigg and Rum, with Glenfinnan possible for those with a full day to spend at the hotel.
Wet sales are strong with the support of the coach trade, locals, and The Morar’s quiz and murder mystery nights. An increasing number of B&Bs and self-catering holiday homes has seen increased trade for the bar and restaurant.

The hotel strives to ensure that all their rooms are of the highest standard throughout the hotel, however for a quick overnight stay their economy rooms are an ideal choice.
There are 2 economy twin rooms, 1 economy family room, 1 economy triple and 2 economy singles. These rooms are serviced to a high standard, and are perfect for those on business, holidaymakers on a budget and walkers. All have TV, telephone and tea/coffee making facilities.
There are 7 Superior double and twin rooms and 2 family rooms, which are well appointed and serviced daily. These rooms include Wi-Fi, and are individually decorated using high quality fabrics and modern furnishings to guarantee comfort and relaxation. The superior rooms have thick walls and are generally larger in size than you would expect from a modern standard hotel room size, since they are in the older Edwardian side of the hotel. These rooms have a range of views but no sea views.
There are 16 Seaview rooms, boasting stunning views over the Silver Sands of Morar, which are beautifully appointed and serviced to the very highest standards. These rooms have the same features of a Superior room — telephone, WI-FI, TV etc. — and are likewise individually decorated to a superb standard. By prior request, almost anything can be arranged for guests staying in these rooms, from sparkling Champagne to chocolates and fresh flowers.
