Portland is a popular tourist destination, with visitors attracted by the wide range of attractions and activities including: diving, sailing, windsurfing, castle ruins, rock climbing, bird watching, kite surfing, stone sculpture park and beaches. Portland is the hub of a busy maritime industry with a well used commercial port and home to a number of boat builders including Sunseeker.

Castletown is currently undergoing an intensive regeneration project, bringing new businesses and visitors back to the area; this includes underwater diving park, museum and a number of luxury apartment blocks.

Further back behind the skittle alley on a raised level, there is a garden area, although this has not been used for a number of years. At the end of the building there is a permanent car port for two vehicles and a bin store area. The Opportunity

The Royal Breakwater Hotel has been run under the same ownership since 1996. The hotel has a reputation for providing clean and quality accommodation at a reasonable price and many of the guests are frequent visitors to the hotel providing the business with valuable repeat trade. The hotel also receives a good number of booking referrals from local businesses whose clients need overnight accommodation. Room rates start at £36 per night for a single, £56 for a double or twin and £74 for a family room.

We feel that although business levels have increased year on year, there is still significant scope to further improve turnover and profitability through further marketing of the food offering and function room facilities, and perhaps by further improving the letting accommodation to increase room rates and occupancy.

Staff

The business is owner operated with a team of full and part time staff.

Trading Information

We are in receipt of accounts for year end February 2016 showing net turnover £324,788 (19% increase on 2015) and an adjusted net profit of £84,572.

Business Rates

Rateable value with effect from April 2017 £21,000.
