Description
POUNDBURY
“Poundbury is a good example of how plans must be drawn if the identity of the British countryside is to be preserved.” – Matthew Rice, Daily Telegraph.
“Far from being the experimental pastiche, a second homes ghetto priced out of local reach, which the Prince’s opponents had suggested, it looks like having the makings of a well-balanced community.” – Mira Bar-Hillel, Evening Standard.
Poundbury was conceived by the Prince of Wales to be a countryside development that would enhance rather than detract from the surrounding landscape and engender a sense of community within an environment comprising economic activity and residential use. Since its inception the development has been the subject of much public debate.
As the greenery has grown up around its walls and people have traveled from far and wide to view the Prince’s vision become a reality, Poundbury has been much acclaimed and even the most skeptical now believe that the principles behind this development are sound.
Poundbury is continuing to grow gradually and the concept that has made the initial phase such a success is being maintained. Drawing on an English urban and village architectural tradition in a variety of periods and styles, Poundbury blends with the existing town and the surrounding landscape and is designed to give individuality to each dwelling using a mix of traditional materials and a high level of craftsmanship in every aspect of the building.
Winding roads control vehicular speed in a natural way and form public spaces of highly individual character that are surrounded by detached, semi-detached and terraced homes and apartments arranged in mews, squares and courtyards all creating attractive streetscapes.
C. G. Fry & Son Ltd. are delighted to be awarded the contract to build the next phase of the housing at Poundbury. A bank of architectural expertise has been commissioned to ensure the continued vitality of design and excellence of architectural planning within the Poundbury philosophy.
As builders of the initial phase we know we can meet the high standard that is required and we are confident that the houses we build will meet everyone’s expectations especially those of new residents who have chosen Poundbury because of its reputation. We have been building to the highest standard for three generations, traditional in style, always sympathetic to the local surroundings yet offering the best of current building technology for your home comfort.
The individuality of the houses we are building in this latest phase at Poundbury, from the charatcerful terraced streets to the substantial detached homes, means that whatever your taste and home requirements you will find something to please.
