Fans of the outdoors can enjoy walks in the surrounding countryside and family days out at Coronation Park and Colliers Wood.

Wollaton Hall is within short driving distance and features a museum, deer park, lake, walks and golf course. It is also home to a number of special events, including the annual Splendour music festival.  

The nearby city of Nottingham is easily accessible by bus or car, meaning a wide array of leisure amenities are right on the doorstep. There are a number of theatres and museums in Nottingham, such as the large Theatre Royal and the Galleries of Justice.

Nottingham offers a great selection of eateries, from cafes and takeaways to fine dining, not to mention some of the best nightlife in the country. Elsewhere, shoppers are spoilt for choice, with hundreds of designer stores, high street brands, boutiques and shopping centres.

Giltbrook Retail Park is a £70 million shopping complex that opened in 2008, boasting many large high street retailers, including Next, Barker & Stonehouse, Carpet Right, Laura Ashley and the huge Ikea superstore.

D. H. Lawrence was born in Eastwood and the house in which he was born and grew up is now a museum.

There are also regular buses to Nottingham and Derby.
