Leisure Facilities

Exeter is full of character and ancient history, yet also provides all the amenities and facilities of a vibrant, modern city. As the area’s centre for education, medicine, sport, commerce and culture, it offers a host of work and leisure opportunities. The magnificent cathedral dating back to the 15th century, is its crowning glory, yet there are many other historic sites and scores of visitor attractions and entertainment venues to enjoy.

Local schools are excellent and Exeter is home to a first class university, recently named in The Times top 100 universities in the world. Cultural events and festivals are plentiful and fine shopping is on offer within the city’s extensively pedestrianised centre. There are many cafés, bars, pubs and restaurants to enjoy, as well as cinemas, theatres and nightspots, based around Exeter city centre and its historic quayside.

The city has several sports centres and swimming pools and a full range of sport to watch. There’s premiership rugby with Exeter Chiefs, league football from Exeter City, horse racing at Exeter Racecourse and speedway with Exeter Falcons. The city also offers a host of parks and gardens, many beautiful places to walk and cycle, while the Exe estuary provides ample opportunities for boating or simply relaxing by the riverside.
