Leisure facilities

The Brecon Beacons is blessed with spectacular mountains, lakes, rivers and caves - you’ll never tire of its unspoilt landscapes. This is a wonderful place to be able to call home.

Away from school, families enjoy a wide range of recreational facilities including a new leisure centre and several children's parks. For the adults, there are also numerous pubs and restaurants to suit every taste and pocket.

Of course, some of the richest experiences cost nothing at all. It's not every family who can go for a walk near their home and be looking for birds like kites, peregrine falcons, barn owls and kingfishers, or for fascinating animals such as otters and lizards. And if you tire of the wildlife, you could always climb a mountain, go windsurfing, go caving, cycling, riding...

Vibrant market town

Brecon itself is just a short walk away, meaning you can reach this handsome market town in just minutes. You get a feel for this town's long and fascinating history as you walk the narrow streets and passageways lined with Georgian and Jacobean shopfronts. The castle, cathedral and St Mary's Church are all familiar landmarks to local people and tell their own tales in Brecon's rich past.

Present-day Brecon, too, is a wonderful place to live. The town is packed with the independent retailers that are missing from so many other towns. These range from the traditional butcher, baker and grocer to galleries, craft and antiques shops. There are also regular farmers' markets, craft markets and antique fairs, as well as a few familiar high street stores and a major supermarket.

Schools and education

Families will be pleased to know that Brecon has several good primary schools, with a secondary school and further education college (Coleg Powys) on the northern edge of the town. Also nearby is the renowned and ancient Christ College private school.
