  • Introduction

    The Residential Auction department is headed by Partners Gary Murphy, Chris Berriman and Stuart Gayer, together with a dedicated support team of 20. 

    Allsop have the people, the skills, the experience and the drive to maximise value for their clients in any given market and like to do business in theirr own distinctive Allsop style - open, friendly and honest.

    Gary Murphy - Partner and auctioneer
    Gary joined Allsop in 1987 and was invited to join the Partnership in 1991. Since then, he has been head of the Residential Auction Department with Chris Berriman. The department is now the largest residential auction house in the UK and sells up to 2000 lots each year to a value of around £400 million.

    Gary is vice chair of the RICS Auctioneering Group, a member of the RICS Auction Legal Review Group and a former member of the RICS Estate Agency Group. He is past chair of the RICS Agency Skills Panel and past chair of the ISVA Auctioneering committee.

    Gary is also a director of Allsop Ireland, a joint auction venture with Space Property Consultancy in Dublin, Ireland. He was the first auctioneer to conduct multi lot auctions in the Republic.

    Gary is the author of many articles in regular trade press, a frequent speaker at professional conferences and a regular charity auctioneer.

    Chris Berriman - Partner and auctioneer
    Chris joined Allsop in 1987 and has worked within the residential auction department ever since. Chris has been responsible for the running and expansion of the residential auction with Gary Murphy. The department is now the largest residential auction house in the UK.  Chris became an Equity Partner in 1999 and is the Residential Managing Partner.

    In 1989 and 1990 he was the winner of both the London Heat and National Final of the ISVA's auction competition. Chris was awarded The Hammerson Prize for the College of Estate Management's Diploma in Surveying in 1992 for ISVA's best Professional Assessment Presentation in 1994.

    He is a second generation auctioneer.

    Stuart Gayer - Partner
    Stuart left school in 1988 and joined Allsop in the same year. He began his career in the Commercial Investment Department where he worked for three years before joining the residential Auction team where he remains to this day.

    Stuart Specialises in North and East London Property and deals with some of the larger auction lots in each sale. Stuart sold 'Brookside Close' The former television show site for receivers and a former Nuclear Bunker in Essex for Essex CC which gained him lots of media exposure. Stuart was invited to join the partnership in May 2013 and works closely with the commercial auction team.

    Jourdan Prowting - Partner
    Jourdan joined Allsop's residential auction department in 1997. He became an associate in 2005 and was subsequently promoted to Salaried Partner in 2008 at the age of 29.

    Jourdan is responsible for advising banks in respect of portfolios of distressed property for auction. In addition he focuses on Central London property, advising buyers and sellers by both auction and private treaty. He works closely with our private treaty investment team in this regard.

    Richard Adamson - Partner and auctioneer
    Richard joined Allsop and the Residential Auction team in January 2001 as an intern and subsequently joined the Graduate Scheme that September. He then returned to the Residential Auction team in 2004 as a Surveyor. In 2006 he entered the RICS national auction competition, coming runner up in the final. Later that year Richard took to the rostrum professionally for Allsop and has been an Auctioneer ever since. He has been a Partner of the firm since 2012.

    Richard has spent a large portion of his time selling assets on behalf of banks, receivers, administrators, liquidators and mortgagees. More recently clients have included developers, traders and property companies. He has a wide range of experience in selling all residential asset types, with a more recent expertise in selling former office buildings with Permitted Development Rights for residential conversion.

    Jamie Clarke - Partner
    Jamie joined the Residential Auction Team at Allsop in October 2007, was promoted to Associate in 2009 and to Partner in 2014.

    Jamie is involved with business development primarily working with Housing Associations, London Boroughs, Local Authorities and Government Bodies.

    Clients include: L & Q, Riverside, Metropolitan, Family Mosaic, Amicus Horizon, Paradigm Housing Group, Hyde, Genesis, Greenfields, Hexagon, East Thames, A2 Dominion, Southern, Raglan, Treasury Solicitors, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hillingdon, Greenwich, Haringey, Lewisham, Suffolk Council, City and County of Swansea.

    Simon Hepworth - Partner
    Simon joined Allsop in 1999 and currently works as an Auction Surveyor in the Residential Auction Department. Simon's duties include providing appraisal advice regarding suitability and likely realisations, marketing of properties and production of the auction addendum.

    Clients include: Public Bodies including BRB (Residuary) Ltd, NHS Property Services, Network Rail, Watford Borough Council, Chelmsford City Council and The Ministry of Justice as well as Co-Operative property division and several other Mortgagees / Receivers and property companies.
