    Chequers Estate Agents has been established since 1992 and is an independent company operating from double fronted premises situated just off The Square in Boutport Street Barnstaple.

    The thriving market town of Barnstaple is North Devon's administrative and shopping centre. It is reputed to be the country's oldest borough and with its original charm and modern facilities offers a delightful mix of old and new. It features the 13th century long bridge that spans the river Taw and there is the famous pannier market as well as modern shopping centres with many major chain stores as well as locally run businesses. Along with cafes, bistros and restaurants, there is a local cinema and theatre, inns and hostelries.

    The town has an approximate population of 28,000 and has its own hospital, well equipped leisure centre, museum, library, theatre and cinema. There is the scenic Tarka Trail for incredibly beautiful estuary walks and cycling and Barnstaple also stands with just a few miles of North Devon's coast with the sandy surfing beaches of Saunton , Croyde , Woolacombe and Putsborough all being easily accessible. The rugged coastline at Ilfracombe and Combe Martin is an easy drive whilst the Exmoor National Park is also nearby.

    For those thinking of moving into the area, Barnstaple offers an excellent mix of Georgian, Victorian and modern-day housing and as well as the town itself there are a number peripheral residential areas at Pilton with its schools, park and village street, neighbouring Bradiford, Newport with local shops and schools for all ages and Sticklepath. On the outskirts are areas like Whiddon Valley Westacott and Roundswell provide modern housing for all price ranges.

    Barnstaple is surrounded by a number of villages many with good local facilities including shops/post offices and primary schools and names to look out for are Goodleigh , Landkey, Swimbridge, Bishops Tawton Bickington, Fremington. And Yelland.

    Mike Insley is a director of the firm and has been in the property business since leaving school in 1977. He has a wealth of experience in estate agency in North Devon and is also both a Chartered Surveyor and an Energy Assessor. He can provide advice on a range of property matters and brings about a high level of professionalism and knowhow for those who prefer to feel that their property matters are in safe hands.

    Tim Sampson has been an Estate Agent for nearly 30 years and in 1991 he became a fellow member of the National Association of Estate Agents. Tim enjoys the cut and thrust of modern day Estate Agency and the challenge of trying to match properties to applicants. He says the internet has bought many changes to the way property is sold but you still can't beat the hands on experience of meeting your clients face to face and understanding your clients individual needs.
