    D.J. Alexander began life as a residential estate agent in the Leith district of Edinburgh in 1982 but the proprietor, David Alexander, soon discovered the vast untapped potential offered by executive property lettings in the capital and decided to concentrate the firm's entire efforts in this field.

    Nevertheless, after a long and successful history of property lettings, D.J. Alexander returned to its roots in 2005 by launching, or re-launching, its own residential estate agency arm, based at 24 Dundas Street, Edinburgh.

    Initially, the company had just a handful of letting properties on its books but due purely to generic growth it now manages an unrivalled portfolio of quality flats and houses throughout Edinburgh and Glasgow.

    We have successfully grown our business over the years through our committed approach to client satisfaction. We strive to ensure we always act in the best interest of landlords and tenants, sellers and buyers.

    Asked to explain the success of D.J. Alexander over a quarter of a century, David Alexander commented:

    "Although the business has grown more than twenty-fold, we still provide the same individual, highly focused level of service to each and every client, and at a price that provides real value for money.     • Our tenants go through a strict screening and selection process ensuring only suitable tenants are permitted to rent from us and only once they have passed the necessary reference and credit checks.
    • We manage properties on behalf of individual landlords with single properties as well as larger investors with significant property portfolios and we can tailor our accounting procedure to suit requirements.

    We have always strived to ensure that our tenants are treated fairly and respectfully. It is commonly perceived that tenants can often suffer unfair treatment at the hands of some private landlords and unscrupulous letting agents.


    The internet is littered with bad reviews of letting agents most of which are from disgruntled tenants. The most common complaints are failing to properly deal with maintenance issues and taking unreasonable deductions from security deposits at the end of tenancies.

    Since the company was formed in 1981 we have grown our business based on our excellent reputation. Our reputation is built on integrity and decency and we ensure we treat our clients and tenants with the utmost respect.

    We will always aim to resolve maintenance issues as quickly as possible, make sure our properties are cleaned and well presented and ensure that no tenants are held liable for damages or dilapidations unless it is fair and reasonable to do so.
