    Neighbourhoods City Centre & Surrounding
    image cannot be displayed
City Centre is based on a grid system of streets, similar to that of Barcelona or American cities. The heart of the city is George Square, site of many of Glasgow's public statues and the elaborate Victorian Glasgow City Chambers, headquarters of Glasgow City Council. The main shopping areas are Argyle Street, Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street with the up-market Princes Square and the Italian Centre specialising in designer labels. The city centre is home to most of Glasgow's main cultural venues: The Theatre Royal, The Pavilion, The King's Theatre, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow Film Theatre and Gallery of Modern Art. It is also home to four of Glasgow's universities and colleges.

Dennistoun is a district of the city of Glasgow, Scotland. It is situated north of the River Clyde in the east end of the city. It is made up of a number of smaller districts. Although predominantly tenements, the Victorian villas and terraces to the west (towards the city centre) illustrate part of Alexander Dennistoun's original plan for the whole area. With a wealth of amenities and transport links, coupled with proximity to the city centre and Caledonian, Strathclyde universities and City of Glasgow College, has contributed to its gentrification in recent years; many of its residents are now students and young professionals.

Finnieston is situated on the North bank of the River Clyde between the city's West End and the city centre. It is home to the SECC and newly opened Hydro. The area has seen a significant change in land-use since deindustrialisation. Previously, Finnieston was an area of warehouses and docks. Today however there is modern housing, office, retail, leisure and arts & culture developments. The area has seen particular growth within the last couple of years, which has coincided with the introduction of The Hydro.

Merchant City was formerly the residential district of the wealthy city merchants in the 18th and early 19th centuries, particularly the Tobacco Lords from whom many of the streets take their name. The area has been promoted and built up in recent years as a residential, shopping and leisure area, mirroring London's Covent Garden. To this end many new bars and restaurants have been established. This has been complemented with the building of prestigious new housing developments, often by restoring Victorian buildings - an example being the GPO Building development. Another important element of the area's transformation is high-end shopping, anchored by the Italian Centre. The district further benefits from a wealth of transport links, which along with the standard of property, adds value to the area. The annual Merchant City Festival takes place in July/August attracting tens of thousands to the area with its multi-arts programme.

Dowanhill runs on from Partick, occupying the area west of Hillhead, south of Kelvinside and east of Hyndland. This residential district consists of a mixture of terraced townhouses with private communal gardens, detached villas with private grounds and a number of four-storey tenement buildings. It's a desirable area due to its West End location close to the Botanic Gardens and also the popular Byres Road area with its many bars, restaurants and shops.

Hillhead is situated to the north of Kelvingrove Park and to the south of the River Kelvin. It is at the heart of Glasgow's fashionable West End, with Byres Road forming the western border of the area, the other boundaries being Dumbarton Road to the south and the River Kelvin to the east and north. The University of Glasgow is located here with other features including trendy Ashton Lane and its restaurants, the Western Baths, Hillhead High School, Glasgow Academy and the Kelvinbridge , which straddles the River Kelvin. Hillhead and Kelvinbridge subway stations serve the area. Byres Road is great for shopping with many of Glasgow's most fashionable and popular independent boutiques.

Hyndland is a residential area in the West End of the city of Glasgow, bordering Broomhill, Dowanhill, and Partickhill. There are a number of retail outlets in the area including high quality delicatessens, cafés, hair & beauty salons, and local shops. It is a quiet area with red sandstone tenements, many of which are fronted by communal city gardens, often embellished with ornate doorway carvings and stained glass windows, built in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. There are also a number of period town houses that contribute significantly to the area's character.

While many of these have been split into multiple apartments to cater for modern urban living, a number of them remain as individual properties. Hyndland railway station is on the North Clyde and Argyle lines. This and a number of bus routes offer a direct link to central Glasgow in under ten minutes. The nearest Subway stations are Hillhead, Partick and Kelvinhall.

Kelvingrove is located in the West End of Glasgow next to the River Kelvin, shortly before it joins the Clyde. This central location makes it a popular district for students and employees of Glasgow University and offers a direct route for commuters to the city centre, leading quickly from the West End to Charing Cross whilst avoiding traffic or alternatively using Kelvingrove subway. Kelvingrove Park contains the famous Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum along with the offering of an urban haven for wildlife.

Park District located in the West End of the city of Glasgow, is an area located around Park Circus, which sits atop a hill beside Kelvingrove Park. The area is bordered by the City Centre, Kelvingrove, Kelvingrove Park and Woodlands. Many of the area's large townhouses converted to offices during the latter half of the twentieth century are being returned to residential use. It is now generally considered one of the most prestigious residential areas in Glasgow, with several high-end developments and historical architecture. University of Glasgow and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum are approximately 8 minutes of walking away from Park District. As for ways of transport, the nearest are: Kelvinbridge subway station and Charing Cross railway station

Partick is on the north bank of the River Clyde and divided into three social areas: south of Dumbarton Road, north of Dumbarton Road and the Partick Hill grand villas. Being close to the University of Glasgow and the city's salubrious "West End" it has a high student population. Traditional industries for the area include shipbuilding and the huge Meadowside Granary. The main street in Partick, Dumbarton Road, has a number of services and amenities which include Partick rail and subway stations.

Both these secondary schools are fed by eight primary schools within the town. Bearsden is primarily a middle-class commuter suburb, with its residents travelling into Glasgow each day to work by road or alternatively by rail from Bearsden, Westerton or Hillfoot stations.

Bishopbriggs is a town in East Dunbartonshire, Bishopbriggs' close geographic proximity to Glasgow now effectively makes it a suburb and commuter town of the city. The area is served by seven Primary schools and two Secondary schools, with both schools recently constructed new-build campuses.

Milngavie train station operates on the North Clyde line along with the Argyle Line. Both lines offer transport links to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Certain properties in the locale can command some of the highest house prices in the greater Glasgow urban area. This has led to its reputation as an exclusive residential area and an aspirational destination for home buyers.

      always contactable by email/phone
I sold my city centre property recently through the Glasgow branch of DJ Alexander. Chris Chalmers was the agent who dealt with the sale. I had several Glasgow estate agents come to value the property and found Chris to be by far the most honest and genuine and felt I could happily deal with him through the selling process. Chris remained in constant communication with me throughout the process and was always contactable by email and phone. My property sold after the first viewing and even though this sale subsequently fell through as the buyer pulled out, Chris was very proactive in finding another buyer very soon after. I have no complaints and would definitely use this agent again in future. Seller - Glasgow.

      smart and savvy
Chris was an excellent agent. He was efficient and timely in all he did. He got back to me with answers without delay or prompting. He organised home report, cleaning, small bits of work and viewings superbly. He was smart and savvy regarding offers made and DEFINITELY got me a better price than many other estate agents might have. I was absolutely delighted with the service and fully intend to use Chris again. He knows the market like the back of his hand and has also helped me buy properties in the past.

trust to do a good job
Chris is a breath of fresh air as an estate agent, open, honest and somebody you feel you can trust to do a good job and have your interests at heart. He was always available to discuss progress and chase things up when they seemed to be grinding to a halt. there were no hidden charges and no attempt to pull the wool over your eyes. I have two previous experiences with Glasgow estate agents and I would say Chris is in a different league.

reassuring at a difficult time for me
Once we had initially set up terms, Chris Chalmers took over to market property. Got good rate with them as I have used them over a no of years for other matters They were at all times, keen, energetic, enthusiastic, helpful, professional and positive. I found this reassuring at a difficult time for me. Flat sold in a matter of days and achieved good price. Totally positive experience would recommend them highly. No bxxxxxxt, no nonsense estate agent speak, no flannel, they just got on with it and did a good job.

      Chris was absolutely fantastic
Chris was absolutely fantastic. We live in the South of England and were selling a property in Glasgow. Communication was therefore vital. We only met Chris once to sign up for the sale but ever since then his support and communication were absolutely excellent. Emails and texts were responded to immediately with friendliness and professionalism. What more could we ask for? We would recommend Chris anyone selling through D J Alexander. Thank you Chris

We recently sold our flat with DJ Alexanders, and Chris was our letting agent.
