    Trained Staff

    Durrants are licensed letting agents, as such most of our staff are either members of the Association of Residential Lettings Agents (ARLA) or the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA). In addition to that we have Chartered Surveyors in most offices and all Durrants residential staff attend regular training throughout the year.

A Guide for Tenants

    Are you Ready?
    • Notify your employers / HR department that they will receive a reference check.
    • Arrange to have funds available.  Cash or bankers draft on day or payment in advance.
    • Standing order for rent arranged
    • Utility companies notified
    • Local Authority notified regarding Council Tax
    • Oil ordered (if required)

    The Letting Process

    Below is a brief summary showing the main steps in the process: -

    • View properties and choose one that suits.
    • Complete referencing / credit check form and pay referencing fees.
    • Advised of referencing results.  If references are approved you will be sent a draft Assured Shorthold Tenancy. 
    • Draft Assured Shorthold Tenancy approved.  Date agreed for moving in.
    • Meet with Durrants pay outstanding monies (tenancy agreement, checking in fee, 1st months rent and deposit.
    • Go round property and check in with schedule of condition.
    • Keys handed over

    The Deposit

    Since April 2007 all deposits have to be held in accordance with one of the three schemes authorised by HM Government. 

    Durrants are members of The Dispute Service. All deposits held by Durrants are held in accordance with the rules of the scheme. If the Landlords holds the deposit under one of the schemes we will provide you with details of the appropriate scheme. 

    Should there be any dispute at the end of your tenancy that cannot be resolved between you and the Landlord it will go to an independent assessor from the Scheme.

    Andrew Lefevre - Residential Letting Area Manager
    In 1973 Andrew started work in estate agency following a Business Studies course at college. He joined the National Association of Estate Agents, becoming an Associate in 1977, a full member in 1981 and a Fellow in 1984. He has actively sought to improve and promote professionalism in estate agency through the NAEA .During his career he has owned his own business and been a Regional Director of a national chain, this experience has convinced him of the benefits a client orientated firm like Durrants can offer.

    Wendy Smith - Residential Lettings Manager
    Joining the company in 2011, Wendy has been employed in the estate agency business for many years, initially as a secretary before working her way up to becoming the Lettings Manager. She brings with her a practical yet friendly professional approach in all aspects in residential lettings.

    Stacey Taylor
    Joined the company full time in the summer of 2005. Stacey was the first member of staff to qualify as a letting agent and has subsequently qualified as an estate agent, passing both of the technical awards with flying colours and being awarded the Student of the Year Award from the Suffolk branch of the National Association of Estate Agents in 2009.

    Bernadette Elvin

    Bernadette joined the company in November 2009 having spent nearly 5 years working for a national chain of estate agents in both South Wales (where she was born and bred) and Norfolk. Her main role is as a Sales Negotiator in the Diss office but she also spends two days a week working at the Harleston office. She has a lot of experience in many aspects of estate agency but it is helping agreements reach a satisfactory conclusion that she really enjoys most.

    Lisa Brown

    Lisa joined Durrants in February 2011 after concluding a 14 year career in the legal profession. Lisa is passionate about all aspects of property but particularly loves the 'checking in' part of the letting process and seeing tenants settling into their new home.

    Teresa Walsh
    Teresa joined as a Saturday and holiday cover assistant in 1996, which led to more regular hours in 1999. She qualified as a Member of the National Association of Estate Agents in 2004. Teresa has principal responsibility for residential lettings and became a Member of the Association of Residential Letting Agents in 2010.
