      Haywards Heath and surrounding area. Haywards Heath is known for its excellent road and rail connections to both the capital and the coast but it has plenty to offer right on the doorstep too. Surrounded by countryside including the Ashdown Forest, there are plenty of parks and gardens to explore. The Bluebell Railway is a great attraction for families while Wakehurst Place is home to the Millennium Seed Collection and associated with Kew Gardens.

      Historic Haywards Heath. Haywards Heath was mentioned during the English Civil War in December 1642 as the place where local Parliamentarians defeated the High Sheriff of Sussex who was advancing his Royalist troops from Chichester. 1841 saw the arrival of the London to Brighton railway line which meant it was to outgrow the parish of Cuckfield from which it was part, making Haywards Heath an important stop on what is today a busy commuter route.

      Property in Haywards Heath. There are variety of styles of houses in Haywards Heath often depicted by a particular development of various ages, but one distinctive style was the work of the local architect Harold Turner (circa 1930 - 1950's), who's architecture refers back to the Arts and Crafts movement with decorative windows, facades and detailing. There are also some very old houses still standing in Haywards Heath including Great Haywards Farm and the office building at Dinnages garage in the Wivelsfield Road, both circa 1400.

      Bars and Restaurants.       Shopping. For many years the town had a cattle market by the station until the late 1980's and then the Sainsbury's superstore was built on the site in 1991. The town centre is now predominately South Road and The Orchards, the latter a modern precinct with a Marks and Spencer store as the main retailer.

      Country Living. Haywards Heath is surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are plenty of parks and gardens to explore, most famously the Ashdown Forest which inspired the Winnie the Pooh stories. You are then spoilt by choice with Beech Hurst Gardens on Butlers Green Road, Victoria Park on South Road, Wakehurst Place near Ardingly and the popular Bluebell Railway at Sheffield Park.
