    Time at John German? I first joined JG in the Ashby office as a Trainee Land Agent in 1981 where I qualified as a Chartered Surveyor a year later. After 10 years in various parts of the country I moved to JG Stafford office to head up the Residential Estate Agency and Valuation department where I stayed until we opened in Uttoxeter in 2004. I now work from Ashbourne and Uttoxeter combining with my role as Managing Director.

    Favourite part of your job? Despite how long I have been doing it, I get huge satisfaction from doing a deal and achieving a great result for a Client. It is great when Client's follow your advice and the result achieved match or exceed every ones' expectations.

    Top tip for buyer or seller? When Selling it is vital to prepare well to avoid unnecessary delays and avoidable issues spoiling the sale in the final stages of the deal. So apart from spending time getting the house to look really good when going on the market, it is really worth while reviewing the condition of the house, sorting out those teething problems which will deter Buyers and create a plethora of damning words from Surveyors and ensure all the appropriate certificates and other paperwork is readily available for your Solicitor.

    What would be your dream home? I am trying to build my own at present so time will tell but I have been very lucky to live in a beautiful Georgian property for the last 25 years where my family have grown up and a house I love and shall miss very much. However as many of our Clients find, downsizing is an inevitability for most of us - it's good for Estate Agents too!

    Top tip for buyer or seller? I would always advise buyers to look at the properties that they are viewing in the whole context and not just concentrate on the detail. Consider the aspects of a property that cannot be changed such as the location and amenities, rather than the colour of the bathroom suite or the carpets which can always be changed.

Offering an array fantastic walks in the Derbyshire Dales, cycling up the famous Tissington Trail, or even water activities at the nearby Carsington Water.

      Ashbourne is home to the famous annual Shrovetide football game which has received Royal recognition by two Princes of Wales. This annual contest is between the local "Up'Ards" and the "Down'Ards" with a goal outside either end of the town.

      Ashbourne became a busy and fashionable social centre for the wealthy during the Georgian period, with six coaching roads meeting here, including the route from London to Carlisle. The legacy of over 200 listed buildings, fine coaching inns combine to create a unique atmosphere."
