    This is one of the most important parts of the letting process and an area that we place great emphasis on. Vetting the tenant to ensure they are of good calibre and can afford to pay the rent is paramount. Our referencing is completed by Maras who are experts in this field carrying out a comprehensive two stage check on the prospective tenants:

    Credit Check: An interrogation of the credit data on the applicants including details of any County Court Judgments, Bankruptcy orders and other Insolvency actions. This information is assessed and a credit score provided indicating a simple pass or fail conclusion.

    Additional References: The key here is ensuring that your applicants have the means to pay their rent. This may be from an employer, from a pension provider or if self-employed, from an accountant. Maras ensure that they speak to the right people to make the correct assessment. If your applicant is currently a tenant Maras will also obtain a reference from their current landlord or from the agent managing that property. On occasions Maras may recommend a guarantor and having sought your approval the guarantor will be similarly referenced.

    With Maras being part of the Towergate Underwriting Group, they offer a range of rent guarantee products (premium payable if you wish to take up this option). You therefore have peace of mind that an insurer is prepared to insure you on the basis of the checks they have carried out on your behalf.

      Richard Whitley - Head of Residential Sales
      Richard, grandson of the founder, joined R Whitley & Co in 2004 and has learnt the business from the ground up. With 14 years of experience under his belt, he is now a Partner and heads up our successful Residential Sales Department. Richard spends his days utilising his extensive local market knowledge to provide realistic, market-led valuations for clients and overseeing each and every sale with an absolute determination to make things happen.

      Jonathan Whitley MNAEA - Associate
      Jonathan, grandson of the founder, returned to R Whitley & Co in the summer of 2014 after a period of seven years gaining experience elsewhere in the property industry including a property investment company and corporate chain of estate agents. His eye for detail and passion for great customer service are key in his role in supporting the Residential Sales Department. His days are spent assisting his brother, Richard, in preparing new instructions to be launched to the market as well as conducting viewings and negotiating sales. Jonathan also takes control of all things marketing, including our social media presence. Jonathan is a licenced member of the National Association of Estate Agents having passed his National Federation of Property Professional examinations in 2015.

      Ben Gunton MNAEA - Senior Property Consultant
      Ben joined R Whitley & Co in 2014 to support the residential sales department. He has a broad background in estate agency having previously worked for another independent firm of estate agents in Iver. Ben's focus is on progressing client's sales from sale agreed right through to completion. This involves chasing solicitors, lenders and other parties whilst dealing with any bumps along the way. Ben's tenacity, enthusiasm and commitment make him ideally suited to this vital role.

      Paul, son of the founder, has built up an enviable level of experience in the local property market over a 40 year career at R Whitley & Co.         We used Whitleys because long before when we were thinking of selling, they sent someone out to give us advice on what to do to the house over the next six months. There was no guarantee of any business. We acted on the suggestions that Richard made. When it was time to sell we had a shortlist of three, and the deciding factor was that their contracts were easy to understand. They were also so sure of their business that you could cancel after only a few weeks. The showing took only two or three weeks and they found a buyer at the top of the market.
