      We are members of The London Office which provides us with a central London base to display and hold particulars of properties for sale. The office is manned by experienced agents and is situated in St James' Place just off St James'. From time to time we hold exhibitions either at the London office or at the Move to the Country Show when members of staff from our local offices meet buyers from the capital and home counties.

    Buying Through Us
    • paragraph

      Initial contact with us will usually be via a website, over the phone or in person at one of our nine offices. You can continue to get up-to-date lists of available properties on an ad hoc basis but you may prefer to register with us. This will allow us to send you details of properties just as they come to the market or when prices are revised.

      Our applicant database is web-based and shared instantly across all nine offices so that you need only sign-up once to be matched with any property that fits your requirements.

      You can register, update your details and requirements or de-register through this website. You will receive notification of new properties via e-mail and can download full colour particulars from your web portfolio.

      Alternatively, you can also register by contacting one of our offices where a member of staff will take your details and discuss the current market and properties available with you. We endeavour to get all staff to see the property but, where this has not been possible, someone who has seen it can ring you back.

      If any property is of interest please contact the relevant office to discuss it further and to make arrangements for a viewing.

      Once you make an offer it will be submitted in writing to the vendors. The staff will need to collect personal details from you, if not already known, such as the position of your own sale and availability of finance.

      We will advise you of the outcome of any offer. Once an offer is accepted, we will notify your solicitors at the same time as the vendors. Because agents can speak to both buyers' and sellers' solicitors we will keep in touch with you during the sale process with updates, up to the point at which contracts are exchanged .

      Following exchange of contracts we will liaise with you and the vendor about the hand over of keys at completion. This usually takes place in our office but with planning a member of staff may be able to meet you at the property.

      Jon Summers MNAEA, Partner
      Jon has been working in estate agency for over two decades and has accumulated a wealth of experience. Having spent the majority of his working life in Dorset he has exceptional knowledge of the area and the local property market. Jon has been with the firm for nearly 10 years and after many successful years within the business, was made a partner in 2012. 

      As a property professional and member of the National Association of Estate Agents Jon is an expert in the sale of all types of residential property including auction properties. 

       On a personal note, Jon is married to Karen, who is one of the firm's 'viewing ladies' and has two young sons Jack and Harry. He is an avid Tottenham Hotspur fan and spends many a weekend at White Hart Lane.

      Peter Grout-Smith MNAEA, Residential Manager
      Peter started his estate agency career back in 2001 with an independent estate agent covering the West Dorset area. He joined Symonds & Sampson in April 2012 in Dorchester and now manages the Poundbury Office. In 2015 Peter passed his NAEA exams becoming a Member of the National Associations of Estate Agents. 

       Peter was born in Hampshire but has spent much of his life in Dorset and has extensive knowledge of the area. In his spare time Peter likes to travel, socialise with his friends and family and is also a keen follower of cricket.

      David has been an Estate Agent for nearly 30 years with a wealth of experience across all sectors of the West Dorset property market. He started his career in Dorchester before running a major corporate Estate Agency in Weymouth, before returning to the West Dorset market over the past 13 years.

      Stuart joined the firm in 2014 as the offices Residential Manager, specialising in town houses and new builds whilst Richard continues to head the country department ensuring all aspect of the market are covered. He began his estate agency career in the late 90's with a large independent firm working in Weymouth, Dorchester and the surrounding areas and has spent the last 8 years covering both the town and village market place. Stuart has a wealth of experience in the region's residential market and has gained invaluable knowledge in the new homes sector. As enthusiastic about the job today as when he began Stuart is passionate about being professional and customer focused.

      Away from work Stuart enjoys spending quality time with his wife Natalie, two young children George and Rose and when possible will be on the golf course enjoying a round depending on his swing of course.

      Jan Merriott, BSc.MRICS, Commercial Consultant
      Jan is a Commercial Surveyor and joined the firm in 2012 and specialises in commercial and development agency and associated professional work. Qualifying in 1991 Jan has worked in commercial property in London, locally and overseas, including several years in New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, consulting to government and corporate business. Jan and his family returned to Dorset at the end of 2001 and he became a partner in a national agency practice specialising in development land before joining Symonds & Sampson. 

      Jan lives in Dorchester with his wife Sian, a local solicitor, and his two children Jack and Gemma. When he is not working he enjoys spending time with the family in the fresh air and playing in or on the sea.

      Hilary Stockley, Residential Sales
      After a successful career in sales Hilary joined the firm in 2012 and has become an integral member of the team at Poundbury. Her role covers all aspects of estate agency from administrative duties including viewings and feedback, to processing offers and progressing the sale with solicitors. 

       Hilary lives in Weymouth and is married to Calton who works as a manager in our Yeovil office. Recreation time is spent with family and friends or a spot of kayaking when the weather permits.

      Michelle Powell, Residential Sales
      Michelle has worked for Symonds & Sampson for over 20 years having moved to the area from Yorkshire. During her time at the Dorchester office, Michelle has worked in various departments including the Survey department and the Lettings department. She has now been working in agency for many years and feels that her experience within other sectors has given her invaluable knowledge in all property matters. Outside the office, 

      Michelle's time is spent with family and friends and in recent years she has developed a keen interest in travel.

      Danielle grew up in Gloucestershire and relocated to Weymouth in August 2012 to be closer to her husband's family and was very happy to be offered a position within Symonds & Sampson residential sales team in September.  Danielle's role is dealing with front of house and a wide variety of administration tasks.

      Outside the office Danielle enjoys spending time with her young daughter, husband and extended family exploring the beautiful local beaches and countryside.

      Trudi Gumbrell, MARLA, Lettings Manager
      Trudi was born in Hampshire and moved across to Somerset in the late 1980's where she worked for 25 years within the replacement window, conservatory, stair and construction industry gaining a wealth of knowledge regarding properties, building and planning consent within the region. Trudi then decided on a complete career change and using the skills she had developed managing installation crews, builders and office staff was employed by a corporate letting agency to manage one of their Somerset based offices before joining Symonds & Sampson in 2014 to manage the Dorchester branch for lettings.

      Outside of work Trudi enjoys spending her time fishing with her partner Jeremy whether locally or in the exotic location of Thailand, walking their dog particularly on the Jurassic coastline and indulging in their passion of cooking and eating.

      Emma Knight, MARLA, Assistant Lettings Manager
      Emma was born in Dorchester and has lived in Crossways all her life until this year purchasing her own home in Charminster with her partner Matt.

      Emma went to a local college studying art,  on leaving she went straight into lettings working within a local independent agent.  Having completed four years learning all she could Emma was then employed by Symonds & Sampson working her way up to assistant manager.  Emma's strengths within the office is her exceptional administration skills and attention to detail.

      Outside of the office Emma enjoys the challenge of renovating her new home with Matt and when time allows restoring old furniture, long walks and socialising with her family and friends.

      Carol Wallis, MARLA, Lettings Assistant
      Carol has lived and worked in Dorset since the late 70's.  Apart from a short time as Headmaster's secretary at a girls private school, work has entirely been within the property business and in particular lettings for over 17 years.  Carol managed the lettings department at an independent firm in Blandford for several years and then opted to work part time in Dorchester.  Joining Symonds & Sampson Dorchester in 2013 was a great move and two years later Carol is MARLA qualified.  Her specific role in the team is carrying out the property visits for the large portfolio and seeing through all the maintenance issues that arise on a daily basis.

      At home Carol runs the farm with her sons and this year has completed a project building two wooden lodges for holiday lets.  If there is ever a spare moment Carol enjoys walking the families dogs and swimming.
