Stoney Stanton was first known as ‘Stantone’ in 1086 when it was mentioned in the Domesday Book. The village was built on a rocky outcrop of ancient granodiorite, a hard stone used for road making.
In Stoney Stanton, as it was later named, quarrying soon became a major activity until 1958 when the quarries ceased. One quarry is now the site of Stoney Cove, one of the biggest diving centres in Europe providing something different for residents of all ages.

Despite being a rural village, it remains well connected to the rest of the Country via the M69 / M1 & M6 motorways. Both East Midlands and Birmingham airport are less then 30 miles from Stoney Stanton. London St Pancras International Train Station can also be reached in less than 90 minutes from Narborough Train Station.
