Britons ’still holidaying in Tuscany’

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008
In news that many interest those thinking of investing in the Tuscany property market, it has been stated that British holidaymakers are not staying at home despite the credit crunch.

Lonely Planet author David Else told Go Travel Insurance that people are cutting their cloth according to their means and still going ahead with their trips.

He stated: "Instead of a three-week holiday to Tuscany, it might be two weeks. Instead of three-star they’ll go self-catering."

The latter trend may encourage property investors, as this could open up opportunities to rent out self-catering holiday properties.

Meanwhile, the next few weeks may be a very good time to be in Tuscany.

This is when the grapes are harvested and there will be a number of wine festivals held, reports Go Europe.

Blogger James Martin stated that a good location to visit in Tuscany is the city of Postoia, which he described as a "hidden gem".

Developers still optimistic over Fort Myers development

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008
In news that may interest those considering investing on Fort Myers property, it has been reported that optimism is still high concerning property development in the area.

Those behind such developments, government officials and businesses are still upbeat about the development along the new Treeline Avenue, reports news-press.com.

Reasons cited for this are the proximity of the area to Southwest Florida International Airport, Interstate 75 and a range of shopping centres.

The Fort Myers area is one that has seen a lot of recent investment in recent times as part of the Gulf Opportunity Zone.

Earlier this month the head of business development at Rightmove Overseas Carlo Walther said the city was a retirement hotspot which had seen around 60 golf courses built.

Such a development is good news for those investing in rental property, he stated, explaining: "Because of the golf courses you can also get some good long leases during winter."

Florida airports win awards

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008
In news that many interest those thinking of investing in Orlando property and Florida property, two airports in the state have scooped awards in a poll.

A survey of business travellers by Conde Nast magazine found that Tampa was the second best airport overall in the whole of the US, with only Oregon in front.

Orlando came in fifth.

Tampa came top of the poll among US airports for ease of connection and comfort.

These high rankings may also mean that those travelling to Florida as tourists are more likely to come back due to the quality of facilities they encounter when they are arriving or leaving.

Such a trend may help boost tourism and thus help investment in rental holiday property.

In the case of Orlando, it is the second time this week a facility used by tourists has been recognised.

The Renaissance Orlando resort at Seaworld has won the Media and Conventions Magazine Gold Key award, Marriott revealed via PR-web this week.

French region reporting sales surge

Monday, September 29th, 2008
Properties in the French region of Pyrenees Atlantiques valued between €200,000 and €350,000 (£277,000) have seen a sudden surge in popularity, it has been claimed.

French property portal VEF has said that the region has experienced a rapid recent increase in the number of purchases in the region within this price range, according to one of its partner agents that works in that part of France.

The firm suggests that those looking to buy in this range should look to do so quickly.

Overall, those looking to buy properties in France may find that different parts of the market are correcting prices either with rises or falls, which will continue for the next few months, VEF states.

Such trends may be worth investigating by those interested in French Riviera property, Normandy property or Brittany property, among others.

The Move Channel has stated that properties in France tend to be less expensive the more rural an area is and more highly priced in urban areas.

Douro Valley ‘new Portuguese alternative’

Monday, September 29th, 2008
Those interested in buying in the Portugal property market can find a cheaper alternative in the north of the country, it has been stated.

Investors keen on Porto and the Douro valley will be able to find an emerging market which offers more than just the famous Port wine, the Financial Times reports.

Paul Symington, of Port wine producer Symingtons, told the paper there are many property bargains available in the picturesque Douro valley, stating: "The government is keen to encourage people to renovate houses in the old mountain villages such as Alijo and many inland vineyards are being depopulated, so there are opportunities if you are prepared to be pioneering."

Mr Symington also noted that the Douro valley and the city of Porto are now better connected, with direct flights from the UK, a new underground rail system in Porto itself and a forthcoming high-speed rail link that will enable travellers to get down to Lisbon in 90 minutes.

Another place in Portugal tipped to do well is Tavira on the eastern Algarve.

Those looking to buy into Algarve property should look there because apartments can start at around £136,000 and it is less busy than the central Algarve, Mary Mangan of estate agency Winksworth told the Daily Telegraph last week.

Spanish island rated top for property

Monday, September 29th, 2008
The island of Mallorca is the best property market in the whole of Spain, experts in the country have said.

Experts on the Spain property scene Spanish Hot Properties told UK website Bye Bye Blighty that the island has seen an improvement in its reputation in recent years, being perceived as increasingly upmarket and experiencing a rise in demand for property, Homes Worldwide reports.

This includes a large number of UK buyers, with 19,000 Britons living permanently on the island and 60,000 more having second homes there.

Furthermore, while the number of new builds is down overall across Spain, planning approvals have increased on the island, which does not suffer the excess of building suffered in certain localities.

The comments by the experts at Spanish Hot Property are not the only piece of evidence offered recently to show that Mallorca is doing well.

Earlier this month figures from property portal Globescene showed that the number of online searches for property on the island has risen in the past year, with Mallorca and Tenerife emerging as more popular than mainland destinations.

France ‘to reform property market cautiously’

Friday, September 26th, 2008
The French government has signalled that it is planning to reform its property market in a way that will avoid it matching the kind of problems seen elsewhere in the credit crunch.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy has pledged reforms to make the French a nation of property owners but finance minister Christine Lagarde told the BBC that this would not mean a similar situation to Britain when it comes to buying and lending.

She commented: "Expect two conditions - a down payment of 20 per cent of the value of the house plus mortgage [repayments] which will not exceed 30 per cent of income."

Ms Lagarde added that there will be no US-style sub-prime lending.

Such considerations may interest those thinking of investing in the Brittany property market, the French Riviera property market or the Normandy property market.

The price people are paying for a residential property in France right now is about the correct one that the market should be charging, French property specialist firm VEF has stated this week.

New property price index to be launched in Spain

Friday, September 26th, 2008
A new index of property prices is to be launched in Spain, it has been announced.

In Spain, property prices have been falling of late but the accuracy of figures has been questioned, leading to the decision to introduce a new quarterly index to complement the existing housing ministry figures, reports Reuters.

Run by Spain’s Statistics Institute, the new index could be published on a monthly basis along with European Union–harmonised inflation figures, the body said.

While this decision is in response to concerns that the fall in prices is not being recorded accurately enough, for investors in Costa Blanca property or Costa del Sol property the provision of more reliable figures may also help those looking for hotspots and also emerging trends of recovery when the markets move into their next phase.

Those investing in the Costa del Sol property can presently take advantage of a wide range of choice due to the present surplus, spanishhotproperties.com has stated.

Home from Home as Brittany offers cultural variety

Thursday, September 25th, 2008
Those thinking of investing in Brittany Property may be interested by the variety it offers for people keen to enjoy a bit of culture.

While French culture can be enjoyed in abundance, overseas property investors may also note that a taste of home is available at various times of the year, something that could be enjoyed by visitors renting investment property.

One example of this is the British Film Festival, held in early October, where the locals show themselves to be as keen on the classics of the silver screen from this side of the channel as anyone in Britain.

Held in the town of Dinard, the show sees hundreds of screenings put on, offering lots of chances to see an old favourite.

Another event that may interest people from these islands is the Interceltic festival in August, which shows off the best of Celtic life, art, music and food as the Bretons mix with their Irish, Galician, Scottish, Cornish, Welsh and Manx cousins.
