Lighting a candle for Umbria property

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008
Among the many events that may attract visitors to stay in Umbria property in the run-up to Christmas is one that involves an object heavily associated with the event - candles.

The Cera Una Volta takes place in the town of Assisi in early December and is a huge festival of all things to do with candles, with everything from workshops and displays to markets selling them.

In addition to the waxy wonder of the event, those considering investing in Umbria property may note that there are many attractions for those visiting the region over the festive period.

Umbria Holidays recently noted that this period also includes events such as the Umbria Jazz Festival in Orvieto, while many towns and villages have traditional nativity scenes and church concerts.

The firm also noted that the area is highly accessible, with direct flights by Ryanair from Stansted to Perugia.

Floatin’ good for California property

Monday, November 24th, 2008
Those interested in investing in California property may find that they are attracted to the state by a number of events that take place during the year, not least those along its lengthy pacific coastline.

At Marina del Rey in Los Angeles this may especially be the case in December, when the Holiday Boat Parade takes place.

Held on December 13th, the event features a large parade of boats, fireworks after dark and of course an appearance by a certain Mr S Claus, ensuring fun for all the family.

Boats in the parade are decorated in festive gear, with snowmen, tree lights and various other adornments providing more festive magic on the water.

Undiscovered Tuscany property awaits

Monday, November 24th, 2008
Those seeking to buy Tuscany property may look to the relatively undiscovered Lajatico area, it has been suggested.

In a report on the area, the Times has stated that while it is off the beaten tourist track, it still has the same scenery of rolling hills, cypress trees and olive groves that is typical of that part of Italy.

The report featured newly-restored properties in the area available to buy, with Tuscany property seekers being able to get a one-bedroom flat for £190,000 and a three-bedroom villa for £590,000.

It also noted that the area is conveniently located just 40 minutes’ drive away from Pisa Airport.

Being close to Pisa also means residents or tourist to whom investors may let the property can see the wonders of the historic city, including the famous leaning tower.

The tower, which was built in 1173, has had work carried out on its foundations in recent years to prevent it from toppling.

Bodrum property may be boosted by flight numbers

Friday, November 21st, 2008
There is a large number of low-cost flights to Turkey’s Aegean coast this winter, it has been stated, something that may bolster the Bodrum property market.

Self-catering holidays firm Artemis Travel has said that there are no less than 22 such services running this winter to Bodrum and the coast’s other airport at Izmir.

The company also notes that demand for holidays in Turkey is likely to be higher this year among Britons due to the more favourable currency rates, since the euro is so high against the pound.

Such a situation may also help increase demand for Bodrum property, particularly that which may be let on a buy-to-let basis to tourists.

Bodrum’s charms have attracted a number of buyers, some of whom have secured second homes there.

The Daily Star recently reported that boxer Ricky Hatton has bought a villa there, near to footballers Tim Cahill and Andrew Johnson.

Classical taste for Brittany property investors

Friday, November 21st, 2008
In news that may help attract more people to the Brittany property market, it has been revealed this week that the city of Nantes is to host a major musical event.

The Nantes tourist authority has announced that La Folle Journee de Nantes - which it states is the biggest music festival in Europe - will take place in the city from January 28th to February 1st.

Over 1,800 musicians will be taking part in 270 concerts in the city during the festival, which will focus particularly on northern German composers from the century between 1650 and 1750, such as Schutz and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Such an event may provide plenty of interest to tourists who can find a wide range of culture - not least the Celtic heritage - in Brittany, as well as boosting the Brittany property sector.

Other attractions for tourist in Nantes include the Jules Verne museum, dedicated to the life and times of the famous author.

Good research the key, says French Riviera property buyer Caan

Friday, November 21st, 2008
Property investor James Caan, from the BBC show Dragon’s Den, has said good research and close-up investigation were the key to his French Riviera property purchases.

Explaining his golden rules for property investment, Mr Caan told the Daily Telegraph that when investing overseas he chose the region because it is "so quick to fly there for weekends".

He added that extensive checking in person of different locations and different properties led to him choosing Cannes as the ideal location and the French Riviera property he bought there quadrupling in value over the past eight years.

Mr Caan also suggested that now is a good time to buy, because "I’ve always worked with the ethos that you should observe the masses and head in the opposite direction", reasoning that this means those who invest now will find opportunities that others are not looking for.

A member of the Dragon’s Den panel since 2007, Mr Caan recently published his autobiography.

Property USA may benefit from cheaper tourist flights

Thursday, November 20th, 2008
Cheaper flights to the US may mean it is a favoured destination for British tourists in the near future, it has been suggested.

Managing director of overseas travel portal TravelMole Graham McKenzie said that a lot of holidaymakers would be cautious about where they go with the credit crunch and recession affecting spending power.

He commented: "I think there are offers that are particularly good value in terms of going over to the States, with more competition on the transatlantic flights," adding that "most" of the suppliers of transatlantic flights are doing this.

Such trends may be good news for those investing in the property USA market for tourist rental purposes.

Another reason those involved in the property USA market for this reason could have cause for cheer is the recent findings of a survey of travel intentions by tourism portal Kayak.co.uk.

This found that nearly half of Britons are planning to take a holiday somewhere warm this winter, something that could include a trip to the warmer states of the US.

French Riviera property ‘has seen values rise sharply’

Thursday, November 20th, 2008
In news that may interest those thinking of buying French Riviera property, it has been stated that the city of Nice has seen the country’s highest increases in value in the last year.

Writing for French Property News, director of Francemediterraneanproperty.com Peter-Danton de Rouffignac said that many parts of the country have seen healthy price rises in recent years.

He quoted Notaires de France figures showing that in the past year Nice property has outstripped other French cities, with apartments up in value by 7.27 per cent and houses by ten per cent.

Such figures may prompt more investors to look to the French Riviera for investment opportunities.

Mr De Rouffignac advised that there are many bargains around all over France, including new builds, making now a good time to invest.

Last month Francois Xavier de Vial of French real estate company home-hunts.com told the same publication: "Contrary to what some people think, now is still a good time to buy French property."

A different type of Santa for Italy property

Thursday, November 20th, 2008
Those interested in investing in Italy property may be interested in checking out Alpine resorts in winter, in which case December could be a great time to go and see Santa.

On December 4th and 5th the Val Gardena resort at Santa Cristina will host the FIS Men’s Downhill Slalom Championships, with the snow-covered pistes being covered in crowds watching the brave competitors zig-zagging this way and that as they hurtle down the slopes and occasionally take a spectacular tumble.

For those interested in ski property, the Italy property market can offer opportunities in locations like this as well as much more besides.

The resort was recently given the accolade of being the top ski resort in the Alps for 2009 by ADAC travel magazine.

Such an award may help make the area more popular and increase the value of property in the area.
