Quality of Portugal property destination hailed

The Silver coast is an outstanding area for golf tourism, watersports, history and property, it has been stated.

In a feature on the area, the Manchester Evening News commented that the quality of the area is such that it is a "serious rival" to the Algarve.

The paper said that Portugal property seekers could find villas and townhouses close to golf courses such as Bom Successo, where over 1,000 such dwellings have been built, including some with grassed roofs.

Other attractions of the region include the Lines of Torres - a fort built by the Duke of Wellington - as well as many historic buildings and easy access to Lisbon for a day trip.

Green roofs may not be the only eco-friendly element Portugal property investors could enjoy.

A vote in the European parliament recently backed a move to provide Regional Development Fund aid for eco-friendly housing, something that could benefit a country like Portugal where there have been many pioneering renewable energy developments.

Wheely good time for Tuscany property seekers

Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas, which can carry over 4,000 passengers, will be undertaking year-round sailings from 2010, the firm has revealed, with tours planned around the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands.

Brittany property buyers to get new magazine

A new magazine is to be launched aimed at British ex-pats living in France, which will include Brittany property buyers.

Called the French Post, the publication is the brainchild of Nicki Wade - the former head of women’s magazines at Emap - and will have former Independent on Sunday news editor Michael Streeter as its editor.

Speaking to the Press Gazette, Ms Wade said the purpose of the paper would be to help expat Britons integrate, commenting: "We have ambitious aims for the French Post to become a feature of French life itself."

This would include covering current affairs in the country and having French contributors.

Such a publication could be of interest to those thinking of buying Brittany property as it may help them to settle into life in France.

Last month director of the Brittany tourist board Michael Dodds commented that the arrival of more Britons in the inland parts of the region has been a "driving force" in attracting extra tourists to such areas.

Law change may boost Italy property owners, say experts

Britons owning property overseas may be set to benefit from a change in taxation law, accountants have claimed.

Experts have said a recent ruling by the European court of justice is this definitely that the UK government cannot withhold relief on inheritance tax for those with overseas property investments does not just apply to assets such as woodland or agricultural property, the Times reports.

Angela Beech of accountancy firm Blick Rothenberg told the news provider: "Britons who own, say, a farmhouse in France or a farm cottage in Italy, could benefit hugely."

Such a change could be good news for Italy property buyers, particularly if they want the asset to be passed on down the generations.

Those buying Italy property may find the biggest discounts in the main centres of population, the Roman Forum reported earlier this month.

It quoted figures from three house price surveys in the country showing that values have dropped in major cities such as Rome, Milan and Turin.

Boost for Orlando property seekers as Florida tipped for buyers?

The current world property market is offering a prime opportunity to buy with Florida one of the better destinations, it has been argued.

In a feature on the issue, Property Week quoted a number of experts advising that now is a good time to buy, stating: "From European hot spots in Croatia and Montenegro to less exotic investments in Florida and the south-west US, now may be the right time to buy."

The suggestion that now could be a good time to buy in Florida may encourage Orlando property seekers to invest in the area.

Lower prices are a major factor in increased buyer activity, said head of international residential investment at Savills Charles Weston-Baker.

The news provider quoted him as saying: "Where people can get a good deal, they’re grabbing the bargains."

Earlier this month the Orlando Sentinel reported that lower prices are causing an increase in transactions in the Orlando property market.

It noted that half of these sales are either repossessed or short sold bargains, the latter being a case where a bank will accept a price below that of the mortgage value.

Interest in overseas property rising, says expert

Director of overseas property portal Nubricks.com Adam Samuel commented that there is increased interest in distressed properties, where the owner may discount the cost in order to achieve a quick sale.

Describing the kind of overseas property such buyers are looking for, Mr Samuel said: "It has got to be property that really has been reduced from its original value and, even better, you have got to see the value there."

Britons urged to snap up Costa Blanca property bargains

Costa Blanca property is among the supply of bargains in the Spanish market that Britons are missing out on, it has been suggested.

Investor portal spanishhotproperties.com reported a 1,000 per cent rise in enquiries since February, but revealed it is mainly buyers from Scandinavia and the Benelux countries that are taking advantage of the low prices, rather than Britons.

Cut-price deals include "frontline beach properties in Murcia for under €200,000" (£180,000), noted the firm’s managing director Nick Stuart, something that may interest those thinking of buying Costa Blanca property.

One place in the Costa Blanca that may see its property market boosted by improved transport infrastructure is Alicante.
