Sculpture park improves Florida property

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
A new sculpture park may delight people looking for Florida property.

Artdaily.org reported that representatives of the Miami Beach community - from art, education, government and other sectors - had joined with Arquitectonica Geo and Altos del Mar Sculpture Park to create the new art feature.

It will be the first outdoor art gallery in Florida and promises to include local work from artists past and present.

The "dull, empty lot and grass area" will also be transformed into a maze of native plants and trees, said the website and sculptures will be rotated throughout the year to provide variety.

The park should be ready to be opened to the public by 2011.

"Residents who live nearby will have their surrounding area revamped…into a vibrant gallery…and the pleasure of having a view worthy of a neighbourhood so alive with culture, beauty and flair," Artdaily.org said.

According to the examiner.com, South Beach in Miami is home to one of the world’s largest collections of modern Art Deco architecture which is found in the aptly named Art Deco District on Ocean Drive.

Demand for Spanish property ‘will increase’

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009
An expert has said that now is the time for the wealthy to invest in top-end Spanish property.

Paul Bradley, a spokesman for the Spanish Property Owners Guild (SPOG), said prices for these top-range houses has reached the bottom and are likely to remain there for some time.

As such, he believes "the wealthy [will] seek to take advantage".

Mr Bradley said: "I forecast that demand for these will slowly increase as the market comes back in the UK."

He added that prices are only likely to rise once a property receives interest from more than one buyer.

The Spanish Property Owners Guild is an independent group created to represent the interests of consumers. It was established by Spanish lawyers, accountants and property owners and provides an information and advice service in English.

Mr Bradley’s comments follow the release of the Knight Frank Global House Price Index which found property prices in Spain fell by three per cent in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the previous quarter.

Hunt with horses for Spain property

Monday, June 29th, 2009
Horse lovers looking for a Spain property may be interested in visiting the "horse-whisperer of the Pyrenees".

Bertrand Cauchy is a well known figure in northern Spain and has a reputation to sooth both horse and rider, reports the Guardian.

Journalist Hugh Thomson, a novice horse rider, spent a week on a trek with Mr Cauchy, visiting his home in Nocito before taking up the reins.

Once in the saddle, the trek took them through "one of the last wilderness left in Europe" - the peaks of the Pyrenees mountains could be seen in the distance from the hills surrounding Nocito.

Amateur riders can take day trips out from the guest house and those with more experience can take up the longer treks with Mr Cauchy which go over the mountains to a 12th-century castle called Castle Loarre.

There are also many places people looking for property can go horse riding in the south of Spain.

One place to try is Rancho Huerta Del Batan in Andalucia.

Find a “hidden treasure” Italy property

Monday, June 29th, 2009
Italy property hunters may like to consider a home in one of Italy’s "hidden treasures".

The Guardian reports Ferrara is as history-rich as the neighbouring city of Florence, yet has none of the coach parties that can overwhelm the popular tourist hot spot.

House hunters will find themselves inside "a well-nigh perfectly preserved medieval and Renaissance city, with barely a car or a tourist to be seen" just an hour-and-a-half bus ride from Florence.

Other local areas of historical beauty include Mantua, Verona and Padua.

Ferrara is host to several churches, cloisters and convents which add a spiritual air to the town.

Author Sarah Dunant was visiting the town and in particular the convents to research her new novel.

She recommended visiting the 17 elderly nuns of Corpus Domini to be guided through the inner workings of the convent and listen to them sing public vespers.

In 1995, Ferrara was added to the UNESCO world heritage list.

Leonardo da Vinci’s French property opened to public

Friday, June 26th, 2009
Leonardo da Vinci’s last home before he died was a French property in Amboise.

This year is the first time the chateau has been opened up to the public as part of an exhibition to celebrate his links to the country, reports the Connexion.

Leonard de Vinci et la France will explore how the painter first came into contact with the French kings, Francois I, Louis XII and Charles VIII.

A spokeswoman from the exhibition said: "Louis XII in particular was fascinated with his painting of The Last Supper in Milan - he wanted to bring it to France but could not, so he had copies made."

Some of the artists work that he completed at the chateau - which was a gift from Francois I - includes Saint John the Baptist, the Virgin and Child with Saint Anne and the Mona Lisa.

Leonardo da Vinci’s work The Last Supper was the subject of Dan Brown’s book, The Da Vinci Code, which was later turned into a film starring Tom Hanks.

Take a date when looking for Florida property

Friday, June 26th, 2009
Romantics searching for a Florida property might appreciate a few tips on how to keep the love alive in the state.

Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Florida Park Service has released some ideas of what married couples and first-daters can do to enjoy the beauty of the area on a low budget, reports Wakulla.com.

Director of the DEP Florida Park Service, Mike Bulock, said: "With 160 state parks in Florida, there are hundreds of opportunities for affordable recreation - from picnicking at a beach to stargazing at night."

A stargazing party will be held at the Silver River State Park on June 27th. Visitors can bring a blanket and a late night picnic with them as they lie back and take in the stars.

Beaches are always a popular and fun destination for couples and Caladesi Island State park is one of the most beautiful - Dr Beach, a ‘beachologist’ called Dr Stephen P Leatherman, voted it number one in America for 2008.

According to Broadway Florida, George Cloony was recently spotted on a date in Miami Beach with waitress and aspiring model Lucy Wolvert.

Admire Spanish property from comfort of a train

Thursday, June 25th, 2009
People looking for Spanish property could do well to go hunting by train.

Giles Tremlett from the Guardian decided to test out the Spanish high-speed AVE trains by taking a journey from one end of the country to the other.

It is one of his favourite ways to travel in the country as it avoids what can be over-crowded and stressful airports such as Barcelona or Madrid.

He says: "The AVE has put the pleasure back into travel."

Those looking for Spanish properties will find that using the train can be quicker than flying around the country.

"Train trips to Cordoba, Valladolid, Segovia, Toledo, Girona, Tarragona and Zaragoza now take much less time than by air," Mr Tremlett adds.

In the future an additional 9,000 km of track will be added to the rail network, including links into Portugal and France.

This will make the AVE trainline the biggest high-speed network in Europe.

UK visitors can travel to Spain by train by taking the Eurostar into France, then picking up an Elipsos overnight train into the country.

Going green keeps Spanish property affordable

Thursday, June 25th, 2009
Going green may be able to help people living abroad afford a Spanish property.

When the sterling began to fade in strength against the euro earlier this year, many expatriates found themselves struggling to cope, according to the Telegraph.

However, by simultaneously reducing your carbon footprint and living in a more self-sufficient manner, home owners can conquer the credit crunch.

This is exactly what Peter Hughes and Kinga Monica did with their property in Almeria, Spain.

The pair decided to install solar thermal panels, wood-burning stoves, rainwater harvesting and grow their own vegetables to keep costs low.

It worked and their monthly running costs are around €25 (£21.50).

Peter said: "We’re completely self-sufficient.

"We have all our needs: television, kitchen gadgets. We even ran high-power drills off the batteries without running out during the building work."

Many regions in Spain now have the law that all new properties must have solar power built in to them.

According to Indigo Guide, Almeria is one of the least known Spanish costas with a growing tourist industry.
