House report could see Brits scoop Spanish property bargains

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Falling house prices in Spain could prove to be interesting for those Brits looking to invest in Spanish property.

According to a new report released by Valencian real estate firm Jimenez de Laiglesia, prices of Spanish property could have been overvalued by as much as 37 per cent at the peak of the housing boom in 2007, reported Kyero.com.

Spanish property prices have fallen by around 15 per cent since this point, the company said, which could see Brits searching for a home in the country able to get their hands on a bargain, the source reported.

As well as this, the report flagged up the potential positives which could come as a result of the economic downturn.

Housing affordability in the country has risen, with the level of household income people need to spend on buying a home falling from 51 per cent in 2008 to 31 per cent this year.

Property prices in the country have been falling steadily in recent months, but figures from the National Institute of Statistics recently showed that the decline may be slowing.

European visitors could head to Spanish property

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009
Europe has always been a popular tourist destination with British travellers, but those planning on heading to the continent could find that certain times of the year are better than others.

Such a trip could see Brits staying in French property, or property in Italy, with both countries traditionally popular with UK holidaymakers.

According to executive director at AITO Kate Kenward, people may find that taking a trip to Europe at a quieter time of year could make visiting cities and other attractions "a joy".

Taking a trip at a time when fewer tourists are choosing to travel could give Brits the chance to enjoy areas in Europe more and could also see them able to choose from a wider range of Spanish property or French property.

Figures from the Thomson and First Choice Trends Report showed that 80 per cent of Brits said they plan to go on holiday in 2010, despite the ongoing impact of the financial downturn.

Getaway to Florida property ‘great for winter sun’

Thursday, October 8th, 2009
Those searching for the ideal place to soak up some winter sun could head to a Florida property this autumn, a destination which has been called one of the best places to avoid the winter blues.

Travelbite reported that those who find the cold UK winters a tad depressing could find a trip to the sunshine state ideal.

While they are staying in a Florida property, Brits could also visit Disneyland, the site noted, which it called "surely one of the happiest places on earth".

"Experience a whole host of thrills and spills with your family in the fairytale wonderland where every path leads to happily ever after," the site enthused.

It went on to note that Florida can also boast between seven and ten hours of sunshine every day, which could tempt people from the UK to head for a break in a Florida property.

After visiting Disneyworld, Brits could also head to one of the other parks for which Florida is well known, such as the Epcot science park or one of its many water adventure parks.

Non-eurozone travellers ‘could head to Florida property’

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009
Brits searching for a bargain break are increasingly looking for holidays outside of the eurozone - which could see many more jet off to Florida property.

According to flight comparison site Cheapflights.co.uk, there has been an increase in the number of people looking at destinations such as Turkey and Morocco in recent weeks.

Global sales director at the website Francesca Ecsery said that searches for flights to US destinations such as Orlando were attracting more Brits recently, which could interest those with Florida property who rent out a holiday home in the area.

When looking to take a holiday in a Florida property or anywhere else in the world, travellers could find online review sites helpful to give them a taste of the destination they plan to visit.

A recent survey from the Thomson and First Choice Trends Report 2009 showed that the majority of people (80 per cent) polled said that they mostly trust the online reviews they read.

Emin to make French property move?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009
Artist Tracey Emin, famous for her Unmade Bed installation, has announced she is looking to move to France due to the rise of the income tax for those who earn above £150,000.

She said she may end up in a French property as she is "simply not willing" to pay the 50 per cent tax which the government has introduced for the rich.

"So much here is simply not working now. The taxes are too high, there aren’t enough incentives to work hard and our politicians have put me off. We’re paying through the nose for everything," she said.

Emin already has French property and said that the country appreciates art and culture - and also has a lower tax rate for high earners than the UK.

In France, the highest level of tax is 40 per cent and artists are entitled to more expense allowances and subsidies.

Meanwhile, findings from Foreign Currency Direct reported on Homemove recently showed that Brits who own French property could benefit from the falling value of the pound.

Bollywood star heads to Italy property for birthday

Monday, October 5th, 2009
Bollywood film star Gauri Khan is planning a quiet birthday in Italy this year and will head to the country with just a few close friends and family in tow.

Ms Khan will be 40 on Thursday (October 8th) and reports suggest that she left India on Friday evening to head for an Italy property to celebrate her big day.

Usually, the star throws a large party in Mannat to celebrate her birthday but this year chose to head to Europe for an altogether more low-key affair.

Mid Day reported that before deciding on a holiday to Rome for her birthday, the star also considered London, Dubai and the US, according to a source cited by the website - which could have seen her stay in a Florida property in the Sunshine State.

The source said that the Bollywood star wished to remain anonymous on her upcoming birthday, which could suggest that for those wanting peace and quiet, a holiday to an Italy property is the ideal break.

Florida property tour highlights solar appeal of sunshine state

Friday, October 2nd, 2009
Eco-conscious Florida property hunters may be interested in a forthcoming tour which aims to highlight the benefits of solar power.

Florida property is certainly never left in the shade when it comes to catching some rays and the 14th National Solar Tour aims to harness some of the sunshine state’s most famous commodity and show how it can be incorporated into everyday living.

Nearly 5,000 examples of Florida property in 3,000 communities across the state will be operating open door policies to show potential consumers and Florida property investors how solar energy is employed in the real world, tampabay.com reports.

Florida is one of the leading lights of solar investment, according to the website, with an investment of over $1 billion (£628 million) planned for spring 2010.

US holidays, such as escapes to Florida property, are becoming increasingly popular with Brits, a recent study by the Post Office found, with one-third of current long-haul bookings made for stateside locations.

Beart brushes off Cruise for French property in Paris

Friday, October 2nd, 2009
Stunning actress Emmanuelle Beart has revealed how she shunned Hollywood when it came calling in favour of remaining in her French property in Paris.

Beart is one of France’s top actresses and soon won the attention of Tinsel Town producers who hired her for the Tom Cruise film Mission: Impossible.

The smash hit movie led to many offers of work state-side, but she says she turned them all down in order to remain in her French property and do the small art-house films that are her true passion.

In an interview with the Telegraph she says: "It opened a lot of doors, but I ran away from it.

"Even though I liked the director, and Tom [Cruise] was very professional, I couldn’t bear it […] I came home to Paris and I never really wanted to go back."

She adds that she was raised in a French property tucked away in the countryside, calling it "a wonderful place to grow up".

The recent French Property Exhibition at the London Olympia showed the continued allure of French property, according to its organisers, who reported increased visitor numbers.

French property still number one for mortgages

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009
Brits seeking French property may want to check out their chances of securing a mortgage in the country.

Claire Nessling, director of overseas mortgage firm Conti, believes Brits have excellent prospects when it comes to securing a mortgage for French property from within the country, as lending conditions are much less restrictive than in the UK.

She tells the Independent: "Throughout the credit crunch we’ve still been able to get 100 per cent mortgages in France for loans over 250,000 euros (£227,700)."

Her assessment is backed by Stuart Law, chief executive of Assetz, who tells the newspaper: "In the South of France prices have barely wobbled as banks do not think they have substantial risk there."

House prices in France have also remained relatively resilient, compared to UK prices in the past few years, the newspaper states, which may make French property an even more attractive prospect to many Brits.

Increased visitor numbers were reported for the recent French Property Exhibition, held at the London Olympia from 11-13 September.

Thinking positive about Florida property

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009
Things are looking up in the Florida property market, with many positive signs for prospective buyers, it has been claimed.

The Florida Association of Realtors (Far) lists the excellent value for money currently offered by Florida property as one of its chief investment appeals, with price drops of over 20 per cent in the past year making it increasingly attractive, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

The investment outlook for the Florida property market is another good sign, according to Director of Far Dr Wayne Archer, who tells the newspaper it can be likened to "people being on the sidelines with full pads and helmets just waiting to jump back in".

Other elements which are cited as appealing to those considering a Florida property investment, such as a second home or holiday let, include the low mortgage rates available to buyers and the state’s popularity as both a migration and retirement destination.

Far is Florida’s largest trade association, with over 115,000 members state-wide.
