Manatee fans can get the new year off to an indulgent start by heading to property in Florida for a celebration of the distinctive sea creatures.

On January 9th and 10th, Citrus County Visitors & Convention Bureau is hosting the two-day event for those staying in Florida property in the Crystal River region.

"Boat tours will be offered for a small charge and will take visitors out on the beautiful Kings Bay to witness this gentle giant in the captivating waters which the manatee calls home," the Visit Florida tourism website asserts.

Land-based activities are also due to be offered, including pony rides and rock-climbing.

Meanwhile, those staying in property in Florida on those dates could also enjoy the live entertainment and the ninth annual Jimmy Buffet sound-alike contest.

Entry is priced at $2 for anyone aged over 12.

Year-round activities that could entice wildlife lovers out of their Florida property include daily nature walks and weekend animal feeding sessions, both held at John D MacArthur Beach State Park.
