Head of overseas at Rightmove.co.uk Rob Wilson said those who look to buy any home in Portugal should note that the country is a mature market and not one for short-term gains.
He stated: "If you are considering investing in property here, you should apply the same criteria as for a UK property; location, character and facilities."
Those looking to rent out their acquisition should only choose somewhere they would be happy to live in themselves, Mr Wilson recommended.
He suggested that Algarve property is particularly favoured for its "touristy" element and golf facilities.
