Run for it in New York

Thursday, September 18th, 2008
In the city that never sleeps those buying a property can get close up to people who hardly ever stop running.

Every November one of the most prestigious road races in the world - the New York Marathon - takes place.

Held in November, the race route is deliberately designed to include all five boroughs of the Big Apple, with Manhattan seeing the climax as the race ends in Central Park.

Those buying New York property can enjoy watching world class racers and thousands of fun runners in action, or even join in themselves.

In addition to the race, New York offers a huge variety of attractions and things to do, from Broadway Musicals to major sporting events at Madison Square Gardens.

An additional feature of the city and its surrounding state is its low crime rate, with a new FBI report hailing New York the safest large state in the country and the fourth safest overall.

The state has seen 17 successive annual declines in criminal behaviour, the study found, mainly caused by a reduction in crime in the city itself.

Join the New Yorkers

Monday, September 15th, 2008
Those looking to buy New York property will never be short of entertainment in the city that never sleeps and one event coming up is the New Yorker Festival in early October.

Held from October 3rd to the 5th, artists, thinkers and performers will gather to inform, entertain and debate.

Hosted by several venues in Manhattan, the festival will have a particularly political theme this year as the presidential election approaches, with much entertaining and feisty verbal joisting to be expected.

This event is just one of many festivals and events that those with a home in New York can enjoy as this multi-cultural and lively metropolis shows off its many faces and demonstrates that however hard it works it also plays.

According to moneyweb.co.za, now is a "good time to invest" in New York, as US interest rates are currently at just two per cent.

Olympian Phelps to invest in US property

Friday, September 12th, 2008
Property in New York may be soon registered under the name of Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps if he finds attractive investments in the city.

Mr Phelps, who won an unprecedented eight gold medals in Beijing, is expected to earn $100 million (£57 million) in sponsorships and endorsements following his feat and is to invest heavily in US property, it has been reported.

So far he has already splashed out on a luxury apartment in his home town of Baltimore, but his further wealth could be spent on a range of properties around the country, possibly including locations such as New York, California or Florida.

The senior managing director of the Bessemer Trust investment house Thaddeus Shelley said: "If he [Phelps] gets the best advice he will never have to worry about an income again. Of course property is going to be part of his investment future."

In winning eight golds at a single Olympics, Michael Phelps broke the record of seven held by Mark Spitz from the 1972 games in Munich.
