TAF Holding Company Limited is one of the leading indigenous companies in The Gambia. It is one hundred per cent locally owned by the proprietor and General Manager, Mr. Mustapha Njie. The company was registered ten years ago as a construction firm in the name of TAF construction Company Ltd. (TCL). Upon registration of TCL, it was classified as Category C but within a period of 2 years, TCL's classification was changed to Category A by virtue of the number of projects timely completed, the scale and volume of these projects. As its first engagement, TCL took up the construction of dwelling units for private individuals and small-scaled business organizations. Its bid to compete internationally coupled with its distinguishing performance as a local contracting firm, led to an extension of the company to include four distinct divisions, each of which is as vibrant and serviceable as the other. Nonetheless the construction division remains the brainchild of TAF Holding Company and is presently engaged in Building and Civil Engineering Works.
In 1992, responding to the increase in demand for building materials and also in order to expedite its own construction activities, the building product wing of TAF Holding Company was formed and registered as TAF Building Products (TBP). In addition to the sale of quality building materials, this division serves as the regional agent for RIED STRUCTURAL STEEL SYSTEMS, a reputable supplier in the UK.
An increase in the demand for building materials will invariably always follow from an increase in the need for building services of varied classification. Given its vast experience already acquired in small-scaled buildings coupled with the trust and confidence bestowed upon it by the community, in the Estate Development wing -TAF Estates Developers (TED) was formed. It is the first Organized Estate and Developing Agency in The Gambia, which constructs and manages estates. It has successfully developed and furnished self-catering apartments for short, medium, and long-term purposes. In addition, TED develops, sells, leases or rents middle and high-income dwellings.
The increased boom in tourism development facilitated by the unlimited tourism potential of The Gambia prompted the need for the expansion of TAF Construction Company into the tourism industry in 1994. In this respect TAFBEL Maisonettes, the Tourism wing has developed a 200 bed 4-star hotel commonly known as Tafbel, built by TAF Construction and which catered for both tourists and business travelers. The company has since diverted its interest in Tafbel so as to concentrate on its core activity of construction, estate development and building materials supplies.
Over time, TCL established different business entities, which compliment each other. Each entity within TAF occupies a prominent position in its respective sector of operation. In order to streamline the management structure of all these entities, TAF HOLDING COMPANY (THC) was incorporated in 1998.
TAF Holding Company Ltd., together with its subsidiaries has over 400 Gambians under its employment and is a very strong contributor to the fruitful enhancement of the civil society. It regularly makes donations to philanthropic organizations, afford scholarships to poor and deserving students and contributes towards the development of sports and extra curricula activities.
