Les Tamaris

Situated by the French Mediterranean coast in the province of Roussillon, this beautiful and well-established park is sited some two miles from the popular town of Le Barcares. The park features include:

In the Locality

Le Barcares is famous for its seafood and boasts many bars and restaurants in which it may be enjoyed both in the town and on its seafront, and the choice of a fine Roussillon wine to accompany their food will invariably reward those dining locally. There is also ample scope for bathing – both the sea and sun varieties – on the town’s wonderful Blue Flag sandy beaches. In addition, no less than three weekly markets operate here, with all the high quality local produce, seafood and tourist-oriented products you would expect.

The nearby snow-capped Pyrenean Mountains forming the border with Spain are home to some popular skiing resorts and offer opportunity for a variety of winter sports, whilst the warm blue water of the Mediterranean provides a range of summer activities. Indeed, there are times in the year when it is possible to ski and swim on the same day!

Close to Le Barcares lies a seawater lake or lagoon (in French an etang) called the Etang de Leucate. It is one of a string of such lakes stretching along the Languedoc -–Roussillon coastline from the Rhone to the foothills of the Pyrenees. The lake is home to a variety of wildlife, and water sports such as fishing and sailing are available. Walkers can also enjoy the many footpaths around the lake.

Travel

There are a number of UK-based low fare operators who provide flights to Perpignon, some 10 miles away, and the short onward journey to Les Tamaris can be made easily by train, bus, or taxi. Public transport is also a good way to get around the local area and the road system is well-developed for those who prefer to hire a car or have brought their own.
