Château and Manoir
The château is entered through the welcoming light and spacious entrance hall with stone tiled floors and exposed stone walls, and giving way to an elegant stone stairway with a wrought iron banister leading to the first floor, and to the vaulted ceiling dining room and kitchen to the right and in to one of the formal reception rooms on the left. This elegant reception room, known as the 'salon de musique' has high ceilings, parquet flooring 'à la Versailles', traditional French fabric wallpaper and a decorative stone fireplace. This leads on one side to the dining room with traditional wood panelling, a monumental fireplace, parquet 'à la Versailles' and French doors opening on to two facades, and through to the office on the other side, with wood panelling, double aspect windows and floor tiles featuring inlaid decoration. This then leads to the final reception room on this floor - the library room with a very large stone fireplace, parquet flooring 'à la Versailles' and large French windows. On the first floor there are 5 spacious bedrooms, each with full bathrooms and several with dressing rooms. On the second floor there are a further two large bedrooms with their ensuite bathrooms.
This listed 15th century traditional stone manoir with its round tower, stone roof, mullion windows and with views over the traditional formal garden. There is currently a large living room with fireplace, a bedroom and an office. There is a second floor that could be converted as well as a large basement.
Orangerie and Farm
The orangerie was originally a barn and has been very nicely converted in to a guest house with an enormous reception room on the ground floor with a façade of French doors opening on to the lawns in front, a kitchen and laundry room. On the first floor there are five bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. This building has been used to host wedding receptions, incorporating marquees on the lawns in front. There is a large covered storage area at the back suitable for use by caterers. On the grounds behind the Orangerie is a very picturesque 18th century stone pigeonnier tower, a symbol of nobleness.
The farm is at the service entrance to the property, and is entered through a stone pillars in to a courtyard. The buildings consist of part accommodation with two bedrooms, kitchen, living room and bathroom, and the rest barns. It is in need of renovation, but would provide a perfect guardian's cottage, or provide further accommodation for a commercial activity at the property. There are 20 hectares of land, mainly pastures.
The property has immense potential as a hospitality project with the luxury chateau as a potential boutique hotel, and the manoir and farm to be renovated as gîtes as well as the existing guest house. The domaine could host events, weddings and seminars, and is in an ideal situation just outside a popular village with good amenities in a prime area of the Dordogne with views over the valley, and just 10 minutes from the Unesco listed medieval town of Sarlat, the second most visited city in France after Paris, an the gourmet capital of France!
The origins of the château date back to the XVth century, though the main building has undergone modifications in the 18th and 19th century. It was occupied by the De Bars family for 250 years followed by the Bouscots, then the Playoults.
The XVth C manoir was inscribed on the list of Historic Monuments in 1956.
