Here’s the perfect holiday home! In a village with basic shops and bar/restaurant, this classic Breton stone cottage is in a quiet position. It has been fully refurbished and comes with a very pretty, easy care garden.
Originally a longère, this appealing stone cottage has a slate roof and stands on a plot of 230m²in a quiet cul-de-sac, close to the village amenities. The property, which is in excellent decorative order throughout, has recently been partly double-glazed. It is ready to move into and could be sold fully furnished.
The accommodation consists of a large, bright sitting room with wood burner and French windows to the garden, a fitted kitchen/diner with all appliances, bathroom with bath and shower over and a separate WC. Upstairs, there are two large double bedrooms as well as a study area. The garden is very easily maintained and is cleverly planted with shrubs and attractive paved and gravel areas for sitting and outdoor eating. There is also a parking area. Importantly for a trouble-free holiday home, there is no lawn to cut! Mains water, drainage and electricity are connected and there are TV aerial and telephone points in the house.
The little village of Lanrivain is pretty and tranquil, sitting sleepily among the fields, woodlands and waterways of central Brittany, in the department of the Côtes d'Armor. The village is typically Breton in style, with old stone-built, slate-roofed cottages and quiet streets.
Lanrivain, being quite small, has only fairly basic facilities, but it is conveniently close to several larger towns and villages where there are large supermarket and a greater choice of restaurants, entertainment and sights. However, sleepy and easy going as the village may be, Lanrivain does offer a good boulangerie so no need to forego the French ideal of delicious, fresh baked bread and pastries daily, a small general store, a bar and a bar/restaurant.
In the normal way, life in Lanrivain tends to move quite slowly, and provides a marvellous contrast to the hustle and bustle of life in the UK today. There is an exception, though, at the time of the Fest Noz des Femmes, a festival of Breton dance, which takes place at the end of November, bringing music, colour and life through this delightful celebration of Breton tradition.
Just on the edge of the village lies the spectacular Gorge de Toul Goulic, where there are massive rocks and a tumbling river which disappears and reappears quite magically, in a haze of spray, sparkling in the sunlight. This area is superb for walkers, with many rare and lovely forms of flora and fauna to be seen in their unspoilt, natural environment. Just a little further away is the leisure lake of Guerlédan, where there are many water sports on offer.
Horse-riding is also popular in this locality, and there are good riding stables in Lanrivain itself. The beaches of the Côtes d'Armor are also easily accessed, perfect for family days at the seaside, and there is the choice between lively resort towns with an abundance of entertainment or quiet coves where one can enjoy absolute peace. The Côtes d'Armor has a wealth of historic towns, such as the lovely, mediaeval Dinan, and also many small market towns.
The airport of Dinard (served by Ryanair and Aurigny Air) is an ideal destination for accessing Lanrivain from the UK, being within easy driving distance of the village. Brest is also an option (Flybe and Ryanair). The nearest ferry ports are Roscoff and St Malo.
