This stone home dates from the early 1800's, when it was built as a residence for the clergy of the neighbouring church.
Located in a peaceful piazza in the historic town centre of Santopadre, the back of home actually making up the perimeter/ border of the old town. As such, there are no homes or buildings interrupting the incredible views Casa Bella Vista has over the stunning mountain ranges.
The entrance door is accessed from the piazza, where there is plenty of on-steet car parking. The entrance room is spacious, and the removal of the dated wood panelling would bring the focus back onto its beautiful architectural details of domed ceilings, stone steps and charming niches.
Currently, the entrance room branches off to three distinct directions - to the ground floor accommodation, which has been set up to run independently; to the upper floor with its stunning terrace; or to the cellar levels and then on to the small garden.
The ground floor has been renovated by the present owners, and is very much habitable - though would certainly benefit from a rejuvenation/ redecoration. Presently there is a large central sitting room which features an original working fireplace, a smaller lounge area, a separate dining room, kitchen, bathroom and two large bedrooms. There is central heating powered by town gas.
From the main entrance room a very charming set of original stone steps lead up to the unrenovated top floor. This floor has all the elements in place to make a really fabulous space. All the original old features are still intact, such as tiled floors, painted walls & doors. There are currently 3 main rooms on this level. One very large central room featuring 2 french doors that access the huge terrace. The next room along also accesses the terrace and features a lovely old corner fireplace. The last room, across the hall, looks over the piazza and neighbouring church and has a small 'juliet style' balcony.
Currently there is a bathroom & laundry situated at the end of the terrace.
The terrace is approximately 45 square meters and faces south. Each morning spent on this glorious terrace will allow you to experience the sun rising up over the majestic mountains.
Taking the few stone steps down from the entrance room brings you to a series of cellar rooms. The rooms are surprisingly spacious, airy and bright, and should you desire more living space this is one area you might certainly wish to utilise. A further set of stairs brings you to a small garden patch, which has a central lemon tree and an olive tree. There is definitely the space to have a small vegetable garden, an 'orto', should you desire one.

The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and Naples and their respective airports. A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming beaches south of Rome. Alternatively, drive east, and the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park await with horse trekking in the magnificent beech forests, and sparkling mountain lakes and rivers where you can swim in the heat of the summer. And at the other extreme of temperature, although Arpino and Santo Padre are temperate, less than an hour's drive brings you to the winter ski slopes.
Often overlooked, both by tourists and by those foreigners in search of an Italian home in favour of the more publicized regions of Tuscany and Umbria, the Ciociaria remains largely an unspoilt gem with beautiful scenery and medieval hilltop towns. A home or second home in the Ciociaria, in the hilltop towns of Arpino, Veroli, Alatri or in the rolling countryside that surrounds them, will afford you a setting where over two thousand years of history combine with an idyllic rural Italian lifestyle, where you can still discover the 'real' Italy and take time out from the busy crowds of the larger tourist cities, while being less than ninety minutes journey from central Rome or either of Rome's two airports.
