It is an ever-changing panorama, which can alter dramatically from a sunlit seascape, as the tide ebbs and flows, to a spectacular West Coast sunset. There is safe freshwater and seawater swimming in the estuary.

Surrounded by six hectares of tree-studded parkland and gardens, there are approximately two hectares of magnificent virgin forest, bordering the property. Majestic ratas and kahikateas, a rimu, nikau palms, kauris and tree ferns grow alongside beeches, ribbonwoods, pseudopanax, lancewoods, cordylines, kowhais and pukas. There are numerous ferns and delicate native orchids and the air is alive with birdsong. Lovely little walking tracks meander through the bush and small bridges span a little stream.
