Description of Kea island (Tzia) - History

With an area of ​​about 130 square kilometers, Kea is the westernmost inhabited island of the Cyclades and one which is closest to Attica (just 16 miles from Lavrion). Connected by boat, with regular services from Lavrio. With a population of about 2,500 people, is relatively sparsely populated island.

Korissia Port of Kea is built on the site where the ancient city Korissos and with Ioulida, Karthaia and Poiiessa were the four cities of the island.

The capital is Ioulida, which is built at an altitude of about three hundred meters. The settlement is the best preserved of the Cycladic architecture with a strong personality. In the archaeological museum are interesting exhibits Cycladic art. The castle built on the site of the ancient Acropolis offers one of the most beautiful Aegean sunsets. Opposite stands the "eternal guard" the famous stone lion sculpture 6m length. Project under the 6th century BC.

Vourkari considered the most important coastal settlement on the island. It is located about five kilometers from Korissia. It is the heart of the nightlife of the island.

Note that, Kea is rising tourist island, due to its proximity to Athens and the special nature of the island, which has not been spoiled by mass tourism.

تعتبر فوركاري (Vourkari ) المستوطنة الساحلية الأكثر أهمية في الجزيرة وهي تقع على بعد خمسة كيلومترات من Korissia. وأنها قلب الحياة الليلية للجزيرة.
لاحظ أن كيا هي جزيرة سياحية صاعدة بسبب مجاورتها لأثينا وطابعها المميز ولم تفسدها السياحة الجماعية.
