Ossuccio dates from pre-Roman times which is evidenced a "sarizzo votive altar" of the second century A.C. belonging to the population of "Asuciates" from which the village is named. The area was popular for the revival of churches, such as the Roman one of St. James located in Spurano and St. Mary Magdalene in the village of Ospadelatto.
On the slopes of the mountain that overlooks the village there is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Salvation and a St. Benedict Monastery which contains a beautiful cloister. Also of importance is the church of St. Euphemia, which along with 5 other churches, all located on the Island of Comacina.
A visit to the Island Castle in the middle of the lake that can be reached by boat, here visitors will find a restaurant (Locanda dell'Isola) that has been visited by many famous VIPs including Madonna and George Clooney. The Island has been inhabited since ancient times and it was the centre of many early medieval wars. it was also the last refuge of Berencar the 11th century and, in 1169, the Island was the centre of a struggle between Como and Milan, which destroyed most of it. According to the legend the inhabitants, in part, migrated to Varenna. Most of them went to the New Island, where the St. Euphemia church as rebuilt with the same patron as the one destroyed on the old Island.
