The house, tucked into the Tuscan Maremma countryside, was built in 1983
From the first instant one enters the gates one can feel the happy and relaxed atmosphere, a perfect place for a quite holiday, far enough away from the hustle of city life. but close enough to city comforts and culture.
The farm comprises 23 hectares of land, of which about 3 hectares are woods.
It is reached from the Strada Provinciale 101, after which 300m of cypress and eucalyptus lined drive leads to the cosily sited house.
There are many varieties of trees in the garden; mimosas, olives, plane trees, limes, cork oaks, english oaks and even birches. There is an orchard near the house with apples, pears, apricots, plums, cherries, figs and persimmons. The house itself is enveloped in an old wisteria which twists itself around the pergola, making welcome shade for the hot hours of the day in the summer months. Jasmine has covered the wall, filling the air with its' heady fragrance.
At the bottom of the farm near the woods (which provide the fire wood that keeps the house warm all winter) there is a spring. The water from this spring fills a small lake in which we all cool off in the summer. The road that crosses the estate is in common with the owner of the bordering estate as the water of the bigt lake that it is used for irrigating the garden.
On the ground floor there is the entrance hall with a small bathroom, a double sitting room with a fireplace, the kitchen/dining room (also with a fireplace, which heats the house and produces hot water) and two bedrooms both with bathroom. Also there is a small storage room.
Upstairs there is the master bedroom, walk-in cupboard and bathroom. There are windows on all four sides and beautiful wooden flooring that was salvaged from a ship.
Outside, attached to the house, there is a conservatory/greenhouse, very useful for making the drawing room bigger for special occasions.
Under the house there are various rooms for the storage of garden furniture, a washroom and a workshop.
The house has a dual heating system, either gas fired or wood-burning. It also has solar panels which produce hot water.
