Miranda do Corvo is approximately 20 minutes by train from the city of Coimbra. Nearby is an ancient pilgrimage site called Senhora da Piedade. Young children were said to have seen visions of Our Lady of Mercy whilst walking in the hills. Ever since, a church has stood upon that spot. The spot offers spectacular views of the entire valley.
PENELA: This medieval town of with it´s 11th century castle is located 10kms to the north-west of Miranda do Corvo. The Castle of Penela is a Listed Monument. Inside is the Church of St Michael, which was originally built in the 12th century. A short drive from Penela into the Serra do Espinhal can be found the Natural Dams of Louçainha.
