Mutxamel (also called Muchamiel), whose name means Lost of Honey, is a small village in Spain's Costa Blanca region, about ten kilometers (six miles) from the city of Alicante.
It is an inland community in the heart of an agricultural area famous for its tomatoes.
However, Mutxamel is only a few kilometers from some of the regions best beaches, which makes it an ideal quiet place for a vacation or just to spend a weekend.
Mutxamel is a popular retreat with the residents of Alicante and other Spanish cities.
Mutxamel has a fourteenth century church with a Gothic Tower, the Conde de Monemar, and the Palace of Penacerrada y Assuts. There are also some interesting dams and canals on the Monnegre River. From September 9th to 12th the village holds a pageant in honor of the Virgin of Loreto, and on January 17 the people celebrate the Feast of St. Anthony. The Commemoration of the Miracle of the Tear is on March 1st.
