Campofelice di Roccella is an Italian town located on the northern coast of Sicily, about 50 km far from Palermo and 23 Km far from Cefal¨. The nearest airport is the "Falcone and Borsellino International Airport" about 86 km far from Campofelice di Roccella.
The first part of its name is a compound of "field" and "happy" with obvious meaning, the second part refers to the presence of a medieval tower on the beach.
Campofelice di Roccella was founded by Don Gaspare La Grutta Guccio in 1699, when he obtained from Charles II King of Spain , the title of Prince, the feud and the medieval Castle of Roccella on the beach and the right to populate the fledgling country, giving it the same name. In the same year, the prince built a hundred houses and a church dedicated to Santa Rosalia.
During 1800 and 1900 the town was a flourishing agricultural center thanks to its mild climate.
Today the town is famous for the medieval Tower of Roccella on the beach, for its proximity to the sea and for its very long beach, from Cefal¨ "Capo Plaja" to the mouth of the Imera River, a distance of about 20 kilometres, and also for its hinterland which is rich in nature and mountains, and offers many amenities for tourists during the summer season.
