Ossuccio dates from pre-Roman times evidenced by a "sarizzo votive altar" of the second century A.C. belonging to the population of "Asuciates" that gave its name to the village. In the area there was a revival of churches, such as the Roman church of St. James located in Spurano and that of St. Mary Magdalene in the village of Ospadelatto.
On the slopes of the mountain that overlook the town there is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Salvation. Furthermore there is a St. Benedict Monastery with a beautiful cloister. Also of importance is the church of St. Euphemia, which along with 5 other churches, all located on the Island of Comacina.
Isola Comacina located in the middle of the lake that has an Island Castle and a restaurant (Locanda dell'Isola) that has been frequented by many VIP and who have made the owner "Cotoletta" famous through association. The Island has been inhabited since ancient times, it was the centre of many early medieval wars: it was the last refuge of Berencar the 11th century and, in 1169, the Island was the centre of a struggle between Como and Milan, which destroyed it. According to the legend the inhabitants, in part, migrated to Varenna. Most of them went to the New Island, where the St. Euphemia church as rebuilt with the same patron of the one destroyed on the old Island.
