The Costa del Sol region

La Paloma is situated at the south western end of the Costa Del Sol and benefits from a micro climate which exists from Marbella down to Gibraltar created by the protection the mountains running down the length of the coast provide from colder winds from inland. So its not usual to find yourself on the beach on Christmas day or New Years Eve !
There are many places to visit such as Marbella, with its beaches and lovely old Town. Nearby is Puerto Banus which is flash and brash with great shopping. Nearer to La Paloma are Estepona and Duquesa which are lively but family resorts. Th the south we have Sotogrande and Gibraltar is only a 20 minute drive and an interesting place what with Barbary Apes Dolphin Safari's and the Rock. 2 hours drive takes you to Seville whilst Jerez ( famous for horses and Sherry ) is 1 hours drive.

Basically the Costa Del Sol has something for everyone and a mild year round climate with things hotting up from June until the end September.

La Paloma is situated between Sotogrande and Duquesa with the nearest village being Torreguadiaro. Here is a bit of information on each place:

Sotogrande
In Sotogrande, you will be happy to learn, that there is a great number of things to do in this place, from visiting nearby towns like Tarifa or Marbella, to playing golf or polo. Or, you simply enjoy the beach or have an outing on the boat. Sotogrande has one of the major leisure centres in Europe and was given the award Centro de Interés Turístico Nacional. Golf, sailing, polo, beach, horse-riding, tennis, diving, hiking, cycling are only some of the activities which can be realised in Sotogrande. From there you can go to interesting places like Marbella, Tarifa, Gibraltar or Castellar.

Puerto de la Duquesa
Duquesa Marina is the ideal place to dine on the evening, or to enjoy long sunny, lazy afternoon lunches. There are a very broad selection of restaurants, ranging from quite sophisticated a la carte restaurants to pizza joints and Chinese and Indian Restaurants. There are lots of bars, offering different facilities and atmospheres. The emphasis is on the family and although most evenings are very busy in the summer months, there are no night-clubs and the atmosphere is friendly. Most of the bars have satellite TV's so you needn't miss the cricket or football if that’s a major concern to yourself or your kids.

Either side of the port is flanked by long sandy beaches. Looking out to sea the long sandy beach on the left of the marina runs down towards Sabinillas which is a friendly Spanish seaside town. There you will find a 3 kilometre long promenade dotted with every type of restaurant imaginable. Inside the town itself there are more bars and restaurants to choose from all of which are visibly more Spanish than in the more cosmopolitan marina. On the opposite side of the marina the beach leads to Castillo, named so because of the large Moorish Castle which dominates the skyline. Castillo is basically a fishing village and all of the restaurants there predominantly serve seafood, so if you like fish and octopus, look no further.

Torreguadiaro
Torreguadiaro is the first village which sits on un-spoilt Mediteranean beaches in Cadiz province and existed long before the port of Sotogrande was even thought of. Torreguadiaro has retained a largely Spanish feel and being bypassed by all major roads is a fantastic beach holiday destination. It is a friendly, vibrant place with a nice atmosphere and a great mix of people from all walks of life.

The beaches of Torreguadiaro are deep and sandy covering several kilometers the beaches are being a mix of rocky coves and long sandy stretches, with lifeguards present in the summer months. On the beaches you can also find a number of Chiriguitos, ( beach bars ), which offer food, drink, parasols and fresh seafood.

The village has about 14 restaurants and bars with food to suit all tastes from Chinese to Italian, traditional and modern Spanish and Mediteranean cooking. The beauty of Torreguadiaro is that not only you can enjoy the food and beautiful beaches of Torreguadiaro and a ten minute stroll takes you into to its trendy neighbour which is more cosmopolitan resort of Sotogrande.
