Casale DiVino has been comprehensively restored to provide a well proportioned family home or holiday cottage with 4 bedrooms each with ensuite bathrooms. The exterior of the property is in character, built in the traditional stone style of the area, while the interior is much more modern. Parquet floors, ultra-modern kitchen and unusual touches make this a property somewhat more interesting than the average farmhouse.
The ground floor has a large entrance hall, off which is the living room with modern, suspended fireplace and a huge picture window making the most of the west facing views in the direction of Todi.
Next to the entrance hall is the open plan dining room and modern kitchen, with travertine marble island and professional fittings. There is a large double bedroom off to one side and on the other there is a French door going outside to the open plan Jacuzzi area, which has a wooden terrace above and is even fitted with a wood burning stove for winter months.
The first floor has 3 bedroom suites, each with their own colour theme. The main suite has a huge terrace of nearly 30m2 accessed from a French door. The other two bedroom suites have a door each onto a shared, south facing terrace of some 20m2.
The plot is not large, but is a perfect amount for a holiday home, offering lovely lawns and flower beds but requiring a minimum of maintenance, even being complete with an automated irrigation system. The large pool is set behind and above the house and enjoys wide ranging views over the roof of the house towards Todi. The paved area is ample and there are lights fitted at ground level. The house benefits from very high grade technical systems both inside and out, as this is the owner's actual profession, and he installed them himself with a view to eventually moving in as his own home.
A great property with genuine key-in-hand potential and at a very competitive price.
Originally Etruscan, Todi is a beautiful medieval town located on a hilltop south of Perugia. Access from the main car park below is now easy thanks to a funivia that resembles a cable car on railtracks. Piazza del Popolo is the main square and, of course, is flanked by the Duomo (Cathedral) and civic buildings, the Palazzo del Capitano, Palazzo del Popolo and Palazzo del Priori. The Duomo is worth a look inside and there is a small art gallery/museum in the Palazzo del Capitano.
San Fortunato is the largest church other than the Duomo and located close to the Piazza del Popolo. Inside you'll find a small fresco by Masolino di Panicale, of particular note because he was teacher of Masaccio, one of the first Renaissance painters. You can also climb the bell tower, worth it for the views of the stunning Umbrian countryside.
Santa Maria della Consolazione is one of Italy's finest Renaissance churches, built, as is typical of this style of church, in its own space outside the town walls. Todi has also been classified as the 'citta ideale', or ideal town, by a group of American researchers who were looking to find an urban centre ideal for the social demands of the future. Why is it the ideal city? Because it holds no more than 15-20,000 people, it sits in a hilly zone in harmony with its environment; the administrative facilities are all conveniently located in the heart of the town while the ancillary services remain outside the town walls.
