If you are looking for a peaceful hideaway then it doesn't get much better than this. Deep in the beautiful Umbrian countryside this well restored five bedroom farmhouse sits on top of a knoll in a total of 2.5 hectares of land of which 1.5 hectares is terraced and fenced.
The secluded location and exceptional, undisturbed views of the long, green, oak filled valley make it the perfect retreat for those looking for tranquility and nature at its undiluted best. At an altitude of 700 metres it sits in the foothills of the Appenine mountains about 19 kilometres from the pretty Umbrian market town of Citta di Castello and slightly less to Pietralunga.
On two floors plus an attic space, the interior of the property is both stunning and welcoming; a mixture of the traditional Umbrian materials that one would expect to see in a house of this kind with the addition of more unusual elements and colours. The house is warm in feeling and rich in colour; a perfect family home. The ground floor comprises a large entrance hall, a kitchen, a dining room, a study, a family room with wood burning stove, two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a utility/cloak room. There is also a stone patio and a breakfast terrace which catches the early morning sun. The first floor comprises a large living room with huge fireplace, two large bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and a large east facing terrace. The attic has a bedroom and a balcony that overlooks the living room. Outside, on a lower terrace there is a pizza oven, a barbeque and a dining area that is the perfect vantage point for eating and enjoying the valley view. Pian Della Volla is beautiful inside and out. If you are looking for a peaceful hideaway then it doesn't get much better than this.
Citta di Castello is a charming, bustling town built on the Tiber with many super restaurants, bars and shops. There are two art galleries, the Pinacoteca Comunale and the Burri Collection, located in two buildings around the town. Pinacoteca Comunale located in the Palazzo Vitelli alla Cannoniera, the town art gallery has works by Luca Signorelli (from Cortona) and Raphael. A member of the Vitelli family (who used to own the palazzo) is mentioned in Macchiavelli's book of how to succeed in politics; The Prince. The unfortunate mercenary captain is garrotted on the orders of Cesare Borgia.
If you fancy a break from medieval and Renaissance art, the Burri collection is the ideal place. Alberto Burri was born in Citta di Castello and was leading member of the Arte Povera movement, using cheap and recycled materials to create abstract works of art. The collection of 257 pieces is located in the Palazzo Albizzini in the town centre and in buildings previously used for tobacco drying, south of the town centre.
