Guingamp is an ancient town, though its once-magnificent castle was sadly destroyed by Cardinal Richelieu before the 3 Musketeers could get there save it. Guingamp, with a population of 10,000, may be one of the larger and more important towns in the area, but the pace of life here seems dictated by the meandering River Trieux, as it twists and turns gently through the town.

The 18th century central square is a delight for those who like to sit at a pavement café and watch the world go by, whilst admiring some really beautiful architecture. In the square is a lovely Renaissance style fountain, known as the 'Plomée' fountain, which adds a certain 'je ne sais quoi' to the general ambience of the town.

There is an excellent weekly market held in the town every Friday.

The ferry ports of St Malo and Roscoff are 90mins and 1hr away, respectively.
