Full description:
As proposed, the ground floor will consist of an impressive entrance hall with powder room. There will be one guest bedroom and ensuite on this floor. The large kitchen with graceful stone arch opens off the entrance hall and includes a fireplace. There is space for a family dining area if desired, or alternatively a large kitchen island unit with breakfast bar. A stone doorway opens into the huge formal dining room from which a flight of stairs leads down into part of the cellars designed as an "enoteca" - a private wine tasting room. There is also a separate entrance from the street into the enoteca, allowing perhaps for dinner guests to be welcomed into your home with a glass of prosecco or wine in your enoteca before proceeding up the stairs to the dining room. A small powder room will be constructed in the cellars for use from the enoteca. Additionally, the cellars will house the water and heating tanks, the laundry and also provide much storage space.
A curving flight of stairs will lead up to the first floor. Here there is an attractive vestibule from which one door leads to the second bedroom, again with ensuite, and another into the beautiful living rooms. The living rooms are an amazing area of interconnecting but separate spaces, each with its own identity. The first room with two large windows overlooking the street could be the main seating area with settees and coffee tables. An archway leads to a second, narrower room that could perhaps be lined with bookcases. And finally, though the second archway you enter the jewel of this home, the third sitting room with the heritage listed stone double-arched window. This room could be a cozy retreat to watch TV. At the back of this room is the doorway into an enclosed stairwell leading straight up to a studio/study on the second floor, a lovely light room with windows on three of the four walls. And here it is proposed to remove a section of the present roof and create a private roof terrace accessed from the studio/study with panoramic views across the valley.
The master bedroom suite is accessed by an exclusive staircase from the vestibule. Here, in a completely private area of the home, will be a very large walk-through dressing room, a full bathroom with separate toilet and a magnificent master bedroom with a balcony overlooking the medieval walls of Veroli.
Plans for the proposed restoration can be viewed in pdf format by clicking the floor plan tab above. Further details and estimated costings are available upon request.

VEROLI and the CIOCIARIA - AN OVERVIEW
Veroli predates the Roman Empire, being founded as an Ernici town with city walls built in Cyclopean style. In the historical center, it is possible to see the ancient Roman walls supporting the large terrace on which the Cathedral of St. Andrea now stands. The Basilica dedicated to St. Maria Salome, Veroli's patron saint, is famous for its Holy Stairwell similar to the ones in Jerusalem and adjacent to the Church of St Giovanni in Laterano, Rome.
Veroli is less than an hour's drive to Rome's main international airport; a similar driving time reaches Rome's main railway station and the heart of Rome itself.
Veroli is at the heart of the historical area known as the Ciociaria, a geographical bridge between Rome and Naples, fertile with rolling hills and mountains, settled by the Romans, its civilization growing through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and reaching great prosperity in the 1800s. The beautifully-restored historical center of Veroli within its city walls is an architectural gem and a magnificent setting for Casa del Cardinale.
The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and Naples and their respective airports. A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming beaches south of Rome. Alternatively, drive east, and the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park await with horse trekking in the magnificent beech forests and sparkling mountain lakes and rivers where you can swim in the heat of the summer. And at the other extreme of temperature, although Veroli itself is temperate, less than an hour's drive brings you to the winter ski slopes.
Often overlooked, both by tourists and by those foreigners in search of an Italian home, in favor of the more publicized regions of Tuscany and Umbria, the Ciociaria remains largely an unspoiled gem with beautiful scenery and medieval hilltop towns. A home or second home in the Ciociaria, in the hilltop towns of Veroli, Arpino, Alatri or in the rolling countryside that surrounds them, will afford you a setting where over two thousand years of history combine with an idyllic rural Italian lifestyle, where you can still discover the 'real' Italy and take time out from the busy crowds of the larger tourist cities, while being around an hour's journey from central Rome or either of Rome's two airports.
