The Area:

The historic town of Tomar is approximately 20 minutes´ drive. This beautiful city stands on the river Nabão and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. Tomar is best known for its Castle and Monastery (Convento do Cristo), which was formerly the Head-Quarters of the Knights Templar Order in Portugal. This magnificent ensemble of 12th- to 16th-century architecture and art is the main monument of the city and one of the most important in Portugal.
