The nearest shops can be found at Aigre and Rouillac. Both of these towns have regular markets, good inexpensive restaurants, and chances to experience authentic local life. Perhaps a game of boules in Rouillac or a 'flutter' in the gambling 'Café du Commerce' in Aigre, where the locals meet really early for their morning coffee, a shot of brandy and a game of lotto!

The enormous sandy beaches of Royan, Didier St George or further up to La Rochelle are all within easy reach for a day basking in the sun. For golfers there is the Cognac Golf Club set in the middle of the open countryside. A wonderful 18 hole 'par 72' in the middle of the vineyards overlooking the river Charente.
