Located in the parish of Ponta do Pargo, ?the light house parish?.
Pargo is the name of a fish (sea bream) that exists in the seas of Madeira, and that abounds in that coastal area. For that reason, the first settlers called the most western part of Madeira Island Ponta do Pargo.
The lands that form Ponta do Pargo civil parish belonged to Fajã da Ovelha ecclesiastical parish. They were divided when the latter became an autonomous civil parish. The precise year of the creation of Ponta do Pargo civil parish is not known, but historians believe that it probably took place before 1560. According to the oldest document in the ecclesiastic parish, the parish council was created around 1560.
Ponta do Pargo stands out from the remaining parish councils for the extension of its tableland.
The civil parish keeps its charm all year round, and hosts several religious festivities. Festa do Pêro is the largest exhibition of the municipality.
Ponta do Pargo has a very dangerous sea coast for navigation. As such, a light house was built high up on the rock called Ponta da Vigia, and was inaugurated in June 5, 1922.
São Pedro is the patron saint of this heart-warming civil parish.
The main economic activities of the civil parish include fishery, agriculture and cattle breeding.
The climate is slightly variable during the winter and the summer.
Ponta do Pargo has about 900 inhabitants, distributed by 22 km2 (5436 acres) of land.

STEPS ON PURCHASING PROPERTY IN MADEIRA
-Select the property.
-Select an independent qualified lawyer.
-Obtaining a fiscal number through a professional fiscal representation company.
-Down payment of a part of the agreed price in order to take the property off the market. This amount is normally non-refundable and made on the basis that a 'Promissory Contract' will be drawn up within the next 30 days.
-The lawyer will then collect all the house documents to check that everything is in order. If applying for a Portuguese mortgage it is advisable to obtain an offer from the bank before the Promissory Contract is made.
-The Promissory Contract is drawn up by the buyer's lawyer and signed by the seller and the buyer. If using a bank to finance the purchase, it is recommended that the contract be made for 90 days until the deed of purchase.
-Payment of the Property Transfer Tax paid by the lawyer on behalf of the buyer a few days before the final deed. Value varies according to the property price, its use (e.g. a permanent or second home),
-The Final Deed made in the presence of a competent entity to legalise the deed the seller, the buyer (both can be represented lawyer, with a power of attorney) and a bank representative (in case of financing with a mortgage).
-Registration of the deed at the National Land Registry Records (Conservatória do Registo Predial).
