HISTORY: The Chianti's history has ancient origins that coincide with the origins of the first inhabitants of Tuscany. Indeed, it was the area where the Etruscans settled since they were attracted by the mild climate, by the enchanting position and by the richness of the soil. The location of the villa was initially an Etruscan settlement and later a Roman settlement. The first mention of this unique property is in a medieval document dated 1033.
During the 18th century, the villa-farm was built.
The estate was purchased by the Strozzi family, historic enemies of the Medicis. At this time, the estate was composed of 26 farmhouses and it was already famous for its wine's refinement and conservation capacity.
Successively the villa was embellished and these changes provided the harmony of its current composition.
ARCHITECTURE: The fašade is composed by a central level higher than the two lateral parts, it is decorated by a gable with a large frame and a clock.
It is possible to reach the first floor (piano nobile) through a grand staircase composed of two flights.
The windows are lined up, except the central window of the second floor, which gives a great symmetry to the structure.
THE PROPERTY: The villa encompasses more than 2,000m2 and holds many large reception rooms, a total of 13 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms. The interiors feature the typical but refined Tuscan finishes such as vaults or ceiling beams, ancient cotto floor, fireplaces in local grey stone (pietra serena), all these elements create an exceptional and antique atmosphere .
In the villa's basement are located the beautiful ageing cellars, completely excavated out of the rock with cross vaults in terracotta.
The property offers also a renaissance style chapel dating 1584, a perfectly restored 16th century farmhouse in stone, spanning 400 sq.mt. that provides 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, a swimming pool overlooking the chianti countryside and a tennis court.
The buildings are nestled in 120 ha, one part of which is the amazing park that surrounds the villa, 8 ha are Chianti Classico vineyards that produces a high quality wine, 6 ha are olive groves and the remainder is woodland.
