HISTORY OF THE TOWN: the city was born in 1248 from the union of the three castles of Agello , Leo and Marrubbione , which erected a free city . The tradition wants the name to result from from an almond , called in the local dialect mannola , indicating both the fruit and the tree, which was admired in the area; it also seems to signify symbolically its panoramic hilly location that it enjoies ,along with the scenery of the Sibillini Mountains behind him, to the west. He had its Statutes in 1265 and it is remembered for the burgeoning industry of weaving between the Middle Ages and Renaissance. The town has a historic center that proves the wealth of its past and especially the flowering of their craft . Even today, woodworking , restoration and antique furniture are still present and of cnsiderable interest. Amandola for many years has been characterized as a mountain resort rich of accomodation spots and with sports and recreational facilities that make your stay enjoyable. One of the most significant buildings is the church of St. Augustine and the shrine of the Blessed Antonio of Amandola dating from the fifteenth century and characterized by a Gothic doorway of Venetian inspiration , and a bell tower built by P. Lombardo. Another RomanesqueGothic church , yet if rebuilt, St. Francis , which preserves an antique door and frescoes located at the bottom of the tower. In the cloister are hosted the anthropogeographic museum and the museum of rural life with interactive applications. In the high Square is the Palace of the Podesta dating to 1352 with the tower partially rebuilt in 1547 , the Municipal Theatre La Fenice and the People Palace , converted into a convent of Benedictine nuns . Other monuments of interest are the Abbey of Saints Ruffino and Vitale and the Abbey of Saints Vincent and Anastasius . There is also a working Civil Hospital .
