WHY IS CHATEL SUCH A GOOD INVESTMENT?

Châtel has an extensive ski area with runs to suit skiers and boarders of all abilities. The whole village is served by a free ski-bus which gives easy access to ski lifts.
The resort is also part of the vast Portes du Soleil domain - the largest international linked ski area in the world with over 650 km of varied terrain spread across eight French and four Swiss resorts. This gives skiers and boarders an almost endless choice of runs on their doorstep.
Although famous as a winter destination, Châtel is also a very popular mountain bike resort with the ski lifts opening between June and September for cyclists. Other attractions over the summer months include numerous activities such as windsurfing and sailing (on nearby Lake Geneva), white-water rafting, kayaking, paragliding, walking or simply relaxing in the sun.
More activities also include the Fantasticable, a zip-line extending between two mountain peaks, spanning the valley of Pre-la-Joux, over the ski lifts and the restaurants at Plaine Dranse. It is only active during the summer season.
In August Chatel celebrates both the Fête de la St Laurent and the Fête de la Belle Dimanche. St Laurent is the patron saint of Châtel and the village assumes a carnival atmosphere with floats and live entertainment. La Belle Dimanche is the farmers tribute to the "beautiful sunday" and is held up in the Plaine Dranse up from the ski lift Pierre Longue.
Chatel is a genuine French mountain village that’s grown from its farming heritage into a charming, picture postcard ski resort.

Chatel Infrastructure
A
qua Centre – the brand new aqua centre opened on 14th July and it looks absolutely fantastic, bringing the facilities in Chatel up to speed with the most modern of resorts. It is located in the centre of town near to the Soldanelles development, measures about 2800m2 in total and is super well equipped. It has connected indoor and outdoor heated pools, a separate 25m lapping pool plus contra flow lane, kids area and pool, Jacuzzis, saunas, hammans, solarium, massage and beauty treatment rooms, gymnasium and more…

SuperChatel to Linga Lift –

The new lift system which has been the talk of the town for the past two years and due December 2015 is now underway with works heavily advancing. We spoke to the Marie recently and they said if everything goes well it could even be ready for this ski season (depending on weather conditions and their knock on effect to working conditions in the Alps!), but worst case scenario it will be finished for the 2015/2016 season as promised. This new lift will take you from SuperChatel up to Lac du Vonnes, a stop off, then from Lac du Vonnes over to Linga. This removes the need to take a car or bus from the centre of Chatel if you want to start skiing at Linga, and allows you to ski over to the Avoriaz and Morzine side of the Portes du Soleil considerably quicker as you will no longer have to pass through the Swiss resorts. In short, wherever you are in Chatel you will soon be much closer to more lifts and will have much less need for cars and buses. Skiers fond of neighbouring resorts Avoriaz, Les Gets and Morzine will also be more likely to want to stay in Chatel as access to the rest of the PDS Is sped up considerably. Property prices will be on the rise as a result.

Chatel Price Evolution

Average prices of the best new build property in Chatel are €5000 to €6000 per m2 which is very low for the French Alps in a mainstream ski area. (As a comparison, Méribel can be between €12,000 to €20,0000, Val d’Isère is €24,000+ for ski in ski out). Les Gets next door commands circa €8000/€9000+ per m2 for well-located good quality new build and Morzine is even higher, €10,000+ per m2 sometimes… although there is little new build property available there at all, both are almost saturated. These resorts have appreciated wildly in recent years whereas Chatel has been left behind. With the new infrastructure investment and a select number of apartment and chalet opportunities available, (although the Marie also confirmed to us they have now reigned in granting new planning permission for any further new builds), we expect the charming farming village of Chatel to be increasing to Les Gets price levels within the next 3 to 5 years
