Xaghra Village, is the second largest in Gozo and home to Ġgantija Temples, a Neolithic, megalithic temple complex. The Ġgantija temples are the earliest of a series of megalithic temples in Malta and significantly older than the pyramids of Egypt. The two Ġgantija temples were erected during the Neolithic Age (c. 3600-2500 BC), which makes these temples more than 5500 years old and the world's second oldest man-made religious structures, after Göbekli Tepe. Together with other similar structures, these have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Megalithic Temples of Malta. It is also home to two underground features Xerri's Grotto and Ninu's Cave.
Xaghra square is one of the most vibrant and lively village squares in Gozo, with many shops and restaurants offering alfresco dining. It is also overlooking the largest beach in the Maltese Islands, Ramla-il-Hamra (Red Sands)
